Beautifully kept gardens, a pleasure to walk through anytime, a lot of effort taken to keep it beautiful despite some student tomfoolery. Eye in the sky, bands playing, lights, etc depending on season.

The gardens are a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle. They have a great atmosphere, especially in the evening, when people sit around in large groups on the grass. They are a good walk flat through from the beach to the shops and have many beautiful flower beds.

Visited the Lower gardens and lovely place to have an ice cream or picnic. Only shame is that after waiting for half an hour for the candles to start on the Wednesday evening we where told that that had been canceled at short notice and no one knew why. My 2 children very upset as heart set on seeing them... More

Perhaps it was travel fatigue but I found the gardens to be average, particularly for the build-up we were given. The kids were bored (they aren't always in gardens) and settled in for a picnic.

The Lower Gardens provide a lovely setting in which to spend time with friends and loved ones, or simply to walk through by yourself and chill out. You can sit on a bench and watch the world go by, sit on the grass with friends / family and have a little picnic or be brave and have a trip in... More

These gardens were a favourite place to promenade 100 years ago, as testified by the photos and movies taken at the time, They have been modernized, but still offer a gentle stroll down to the beach. On a few evenings through the summer candles are lit through the gardens which make them very romantic.
