It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930. A clever mix of authentic artefacts with hi-tech interpretation. From talking portraits and statues to interactive displays and one of the largest fine art collections in the South West, there really is something for everyone. Follow the garden trails or pick up a family guide or Experts' Choice to discover many hidden mysteries. With a wealth of exotic plants, the gardens are a tranquil haven of beauty and pleasure and the perfect setting in which to relax, stroll or picnic. Children can explore the garden and bring the Abbey to life using our special discovery backpacks. Browse our shop stocked with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and enjoy a selection of drinks, snacks and light meals in the tearooms. The house, Spanish Barn and Palm House are licensed for civil weddings, partnership ceremonies and christenings. Torre Abbey can also cater for functions, corporate hospitality or training events. A varied programme of events takes place at Torre Abbey throughout the year. Tours of the house are available out of hours to groups of 30 or more. Following the recent restoration project, the Abbey now boasts a new educational suite which provides opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the Abbey's history. « less

The abbey is interesting and has good interactive displays. There are videos you can watch which give the story of the history of the abbey. The best one is the interactive display that shows differing views of the abbey from the residents of it to the land owners and people living in the vacinity. There is an art gallery floor... More

During a brief shower in Torquay (honestly!) - we took afternoon tea (scone/clotted cream etc) - truly fab - the girls are very welcoming & the place was spotlessly clean.

We visited just after the official reopening of the Abbey and were amazed at the splendid job that has been done. The stairs and lift are modern stainless steel and wood, but all done with great sympathy and it all looks so good. The hands-on technology to explain the history is lovely to use and there are places to sit... More

We visited expecting the gardens to be the main attraction so were surprised at how much there is to see. Inside the collection of paintings is impressive, especially the local scenes, and there is a lot on information on how artists work. The history of the Abbey is tied up with the history of Torbay and the displays bring this... More

Torquay need to make more of this little gem. We arrived expecting a garden with a ruin to find a 4 storey museum building with great interactive information with talking portraits and statues with hologram faces (quite spooky). Gardens well kept and interesting with the requisite ruin. Well worth a visit.

Loved this place - the gardens and abbey ruins were brilliant - loved the greenhouse with the semi-tropical plants. The ruins are very accessible and everything is well described. Inside the abbey is just as good with three floor of really interesting history, artifacts, interactive exhibits, art works etc. Fabulous.
