It is one of the best buildings in the country to tell the story of 800 years of Catholicism between 1196 and 1930. A clever mix of authentic artefacts with hi-tech interpretation. From talking portraits and statues to interactive displays and one of the largest fine art collections in the South West, there really is something for everyone. Follow the garden trails or pick up a family guide or Experts' Choice to discover many hidden mysteries. With a wealth of exotic plants, the gardens are a tranquil haven of beauty and pleasure and the perfect setting in which to relax, stroll or picnic. Children can explore the garden and bring the Abbey to life using our special discovery backpacks. Browse our shop stocked with a range of souvenirs, gifts and books or sit down and enjoy a selection of drinks, snacks and light meals in the tearooms. The house, Spanish Barn and Palm House are licensed for civil weddings, partnership ceremonies and christenings. Torre Abbey can also cater for functions, corporate hospitality or training events. A varied programme of events takes place at Torre Abbey throughout the year. Tours of the house are available out of hours to groups of 30 or more. Following the recent restoration project, the Abbey now boasts a new educational suite which provides opportunities for students of all ages to get involved and explore the Abbey's history. « less

This attraction was right on the sea front, and set amongst beautiful grounds. You can eat in the Abbey and there is plenty to see, there was also an art exhibition whilst we were there bank holiday week. There was plenty to see in the Abbey giving the history of the owners, the unfortunate Cary family you can find parks... More

We visited the Abbey wanting to see the renovations. We weren't disappointed. The second floor is now an exhibit showing 800 years of history through interactive displays and Other displays. It really brought history to life. We found out that Nelson had visited, Napaoleon had been a prisoner on a ship in Torbay before being sent to St Helena, George... More

I loved my recent visit here so much that I took advantage of the free next day return on the entry ticket! There was so much to see and the revamped top floor was fascinating, full of well thought out interactive exhibits. In the cafe the cheese scones were big, really light and yummy, you can also visit the tea... More

Recently renovated this is an amazing place from the gardens to the interactive displays. The cafe is highly recommended too! Best cream teas in Devon! So much to see and do from the ruins to the artwork! Spent nearly an entire day there. Something for everyone.

If you visit Torre Abbey it's a must to visit the tea rooms. The sweet and savory cream teas were excellent. I requested more clotted cream, this was brought with a smile and no extra cost. I have recently had Tea at the Ritz but Torre Abbey was so very much better. All the food looked very appetizing and the... More

Very interesting. The top floor particularly so, with e.g. its videos containing period actors (an abbot, a tax collector etc.) telling us about abbey life from each of their characters' perspectives. Nice structure to the timeline regarding the Cary family history, containing many anecdotes of interest. No dislikes here. Good quality cafe with friendly service;
