Watersmeet House was built in 1832 as a fishing lodge by the Reverend W.S.Halliday, the son of a rich businessman. The stone for the house was quarried at Watersmeet, above the East Lyn River. Sitting in a beautiful wooded river valley, Watersmeet and its surrounds are a fantastic place to walk, and enjoy the abundant wildlife and nature of this part of Exmoor. We had an absolutely glorious morning's walk up the East Lyn River to Watersmeet enjoying the unseasonably warm sunshine and a morning coffee at the tearooms there. The 45 minute walk each way is simply quite beautiful, starting in Lynmouth at the end of Tors Road it is fairly flat following the river all of the way. Watersmeet is where... more

Watersmeet is very pleasant walking all the way upstream to Watersmeet House where the East River and Hoar Oak Water meet. The countryside around Watersmeet is one of those special areas with a deeply wooded valley and a sparkling river and peace and quiet. A Beautiful Walk. more

Just follow the East Lyn river up from Lynmouth. After a lovely 45 minute amble we arrived at Watersmeet, a former fishing lodge now run by the National Trust as a shop and tearooms. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours. more

Watersmeet is inland from Lynmouth in the picturesque East Lyn valley where the East Lyn river and Hoar Oak Water meet. The walk to Watersmeet from Lynmouth is beautiful, just follow the East Lyn river and amble along for about 40 minutes. The scenery is lovely and you are rewarded with refreshments at the former riverside fishing lodge set in... more

The walk to Watersmeet is an ideal gentle walk, and very well worth it. From Lynmouth follow just the path down by the East Lyn River, it is a relatively flat walk along the river bank all of the way and takes about 45 minutes to one hour. This walk is just absolutely stunning! No wonder visitors in the early... more
