Its one of those things you just have to do given its uniqueness. Not particularly user friendly for pushchairs/wheelchairs but it is very old. The trip is over very quickly so you are paying a premium but it must cost a lot to run and maintain. I can imagine there is a modest waiting time on busy days.

We parked the car in Lynmouth and got the cliff railway up to Lynton. We then walked the valley of the rocks (highly recommend). We then came back to Lynton and had scones in the tea room next/in the railway before getting the train back down the cliff. A fantastic mini adventure, with some outstanding views captured.

Great experience although found the staff a little jobs worth. End of the day so perhaps their day had been busy

The cliff railway is a short walk from a town centre car park through a cool walkway lined with an array of colourful baskets of summer blooms. There were some market stalls along the way which although largely packed up had some wares for sale. One lady sells lovely hand made cards and other hand painted attractive souvenirs mostly on... Loved the fact that push-chairs can be taken on this railway. Whilst a short trip it's worth the return journey on this quaint old style railway.

Well worth parking down in Lynmouth and experiencing the railway trip up the cliff. Fabulous friendly little café in the old waiting room at the top with terrific views. From there walk out to the Valley of the Rocks. Quite spectacular.

We visited this great piece of engineering whilst holidaying in Somerset. The journey itself over the Porlock Hill was an adventure in itself. The railway was central in the village, which was so picturesque. Very reasonably priced and a fantastic cream tea at the top We had a 5yr old with us and she thought it was awesome. If I... More

We parked at Lynton, at the top, and you definitely need your walking shoes as you stroll around this very hilly town. Lots of little shops to investigate before taking the actual "water powered" funicular cliff railway; an excellent feat of engineering. Wonderful views over the Bristol channel, chatty drivers and the gentleman in the bottom booth was informative and... More

This railway is so unique and so useful. When it is outside its operating times you miss it, because I saves one heck of a walk, especially uphill. But it is also great fun to stand outside when going downhill, not only for the view, but also to marvel at the engineering. Could be a little bit cheaper though.

Even on a wet day it was a great experience to travel on this unique railway. The ride at the front ongood weather days must be even better than sitting in the tram. There is information provided about the history and the working of the railway. A definate must for anyone visiting the towns.
