It is a great place to visit to experience incredible history of Exeter. It is really beautiful in there and it is located right in the centre of Exeter. It is also next to peaceful Rougemont Gardens. A great place to relax, never too crowdy, unless it is a food festival.

We got married at the Castle at the start of July. It was always going to be a special day, but it was better than our highest expectations. I have to say the Castle manager Chris was truly excellent - he was fantastic from start to finish! He made sure everything went according to plan and ensured we had a... More

We had our wedding here at Exeter Castle and it couldn't of been more perfect. The venue is stunning and worked so well with our monochrome theme. Chris was absolutely amazing, so helpful and attentive, he couldn't do enough for us. The day went so smoothly and we have had numerous messages from friends and family saying how stunning and... We were keen to visit the castle - lots of important history, just as there is for Exeter generally - but they had a Food & Wine event and as we had no invitations the (big) (beefy) security men made sure that we turned 180' and left asap. Shame.

Hi Mike99Marg, I am sorry to hear about your recent trip to Exeter Castle where you were unable to gain access. As I am sure you can appreciate, the only way to maintain the upkeep of the building and the infrastructure is to make it commercially viable. The Castle is often hired out to organisations for corporate events, people wishing... More

Sadly you can only walk around the outside of Exeter Castle as the inner part is now privately owned and used for functions. However the castle walls and gardens are well worth a stroll and keep your eye out for the interesting plaques and the statues in the Garden. A shame that the Castle is only a ruin now as... More

We had our wedding at Exeter Castle and it was fantastic. Alice and the team were alwys on hand for any questions or requests - which made our lives easier organising the wedding long-distance! All our guests raved about the venue and the toilets went down a storm! Super place with now amazing memories for us - would reccommend to... More

We went for a little walk around the castle ruins and it was really peaceful and beautiful. There were lots of birds and squirrels and great set of flowers. Worth visiting.

My son got married here and it was a fantastic venue. Easy reach of Exeter town for guests and the different rooms they had use of we're brilliant. The building was lovely and the quirky toilets that used to be jail cells were a real talking point. Highly recommended.

As you approach the Castle from Castle St, take a moment to read the memorial plaque to the Bideford "Witches", temperance Lloyd, Susannah Edwards, and Mary Trembles, the last 3 victims of King James I, who were tried in the Castle and hanged in Heavitree in 1682. Just off the main shopping street called High Street. Turn into Cadtle street and you'll see it at the top of the slope. Just a ruin, not much to see. You can do the city wall tour that ajoins the castle.
