Wow, an engaging guide in Gill Yates, a sunny day and an amazing trot around the streets of Exeter and all for free. What more could you ask for? Oh yes, a choice of several other equally interesting looking tours. Check out the red coat guide links, I'd have taken more tours if I'd had more time. Highly recommended!

We did the churches and catacombs tour today and it was excellent. Our very knowledgeable guide set the historic context briliantly. Although 90 minutes sounded like a long time for a tour, the time flew by because everything we heard from our guide and everything we saw, was fascinationg. We visited places in Exeter we had not seen before. Brilliant... More

The red coat guides are easy to find and identify. There are several tours to choose from and we went on the Tudor Exeter tour as we are interested in that period. Our guide, Gill was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. You are shown sights that you wouldn't find by yourself. A must do and we would have attended others given... More

We went on three tours, The Cathedral to Quay, The Historic Quayside and The Ghost Tour. All our guides were professional and amusing as well as being very informative. This is a great way to quickly familiarise yourself with Exeter especially if you have limited time to spare. My personal favourite was The Cathedral to Quayside tour. A must when... More

Having read about the Red Coat Tours on TripAdvisor I was quick to work out which tour I wanted to take. The City Wall was my chosen adventure. Meeting the guide was easy and the red coat really helped! We left exactly on time which was great. The information was first class and the subject matter was fascinating. I was... More

When most places are so keen to rip off the tourists, how refreshing to find a city which offers a range of brilliant guided walks every day - for free! They really know their stuff and show you every aspect of the local history and heritage.

This totally free tour took us to amazing and historic sights of Exeter City. You do need to be on your feet for almost 2 hours though but well worth it. Can't recommend it enough.

Clive was our guide and he took us on the Tudor Tour, he was very knowledgeable and took to places around Exeter that we would never have found ourselves. The tour took about one and a half hours, and was free! Well done to Exeter City to have such a wonderful attraction and very helpful and friendly guides.

Excellent tour guide (Mike Richards) who was very interesting, amusing and knowledgable. We went on the Georgian tour but Mike asked if we wanted anything else. We were interested in Medieval history as well so he included some in the tour as we went round. I would highly recommend the Redcoat tours to anyone visiting Exeter.

We've enjoyed four FREE tours with these wonderful volunteers. So much to learn and appreciate. Having been a student in this glorious city over 50 years ago, these gentle walks were all a revelation. There are many more, but we've enjoyed our time on - Canal Basin to Countess Wear (boat out, walk back along lovely towpath, or boat return,... More
