How I wish all major cities had something like this! There are lots of different tours - all free - led by guides morning, afternoon and evening, catering for all tastes and types. They range from talks about medieval Exeter to tours of Exter;s Quay and even include ghost walks at Halloween1 All the guides do the (unpaid) job just... More

Took the 2pm "Medieval" tour - very interesting, pleasant and knowledgeable guide - Sharyn. Exeter has a really interesting history and Sharyn showed us places that I suspect we would not have found alone. Great initiative by the City of Exeter

A group of 4 of us did the Tudor walk. We saw parts of Exeter we would not otherwise have seen. Our tour guide was Graham, who was very knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

A brilliant way to see whatever aspect of Exeter you're interested in - medieval, Georgian, city wall, cathedral to quay from knowledgeable friendly guides who are genuinely interested in Exeter. And they're free which is even better! Only worry was if there would be places available as you can't book and its first come first served with group size limited... More

There is no better way to find out about a city than to go on a guided tour and for such a tour to be free is an added bonus. The volunteers are knowledgeable and entertaining and give you a view of the city and it's hidden corners that you would never get just wandering around. In fact we so... More

We joined the Medieval Exeter tour with Americans and French visitors as well as othe British visitors. Gill, our guide, was really informative and led us at just the right pace, pointing out the history of Exeterthat we could never have found on our own. Where would our country be without volunteers like Gill? Please keep on doing just what... More

Well worth joining one of these city tours if your time in the city allows. Apart fro being free which is brilliant when holidays are so expensive. The knowledge of the volunteer tour guides is outstanding, Mike was our guide on Wednesday for the Medieval tour of Exeter he was informative and interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed his explanations and... We joined a Saturday morning Medieval Exeter tour with Mike. He was outstanding managing to avoid the 2 usual tour traps of either imparting way too much information or trying to turn it into a one man comedy show. He was concise witty and well informed. There are many other guides but if they are half as good as Mike... More

We've been to Exeter a number of times over the last year and done several of these free Redcoat tours whilst we were there. They generally start at 11:00 or 14:00 at the marked meeting point next to the Cathedral and last for 1.5 hours. Although there is some overlap of information between some of the tours the guides (who... More
