More sheltered than Porthmeor, a classic sandy beach with lots to do apart from swimming and sandcastles. Paddle boarding and kayaking on offer - calm water here makes it ideal. Porthminster cafe v popular - fish & chips good, other main courses surprisingly expensive (£30 main courses). Just below St Ives station, good for day trip.

Handy - and sandy - beach close to the railway station and with excellent facilities. There are loos, cafes and bars close by but the beach is peaceful, particularly early and late.

St Ives gets very busy in the summer and it is virtually impossible to park near the beaches. This beach is just a short walk from the railway station. The train ride here is very pretty too. An ideal beach for families. Toilets and takeaways cafes nearby and you're only a short walk into the main town.

I have been visiting St. Ives for 70 years and living in Plymouth not far to travel. Porthminster is our favourite beach, its clean, safe - calmer than Porthmeor - the cafe's either side of the beach sell a great range of hot and cold food, drinks, and the attached shop selling beach requirements. In August the Beach Mission members... More

Love this beach and everything about it - the air, the light, calm and clear, clean. Lovèly atmosphere. Lovè it everything good. Even refreshments and the shop are good value (t-shirt £8.95, football £2.20)

We visited before the busy season, my daughter and her husband were also staying there with their dog and as it was earlier in the year we could walk on all the beaches. We were also very fortunate with the weather cold and sunny.

Porthminster Beach is a piece of heaven in this beautiful part of West Cornwall. Clear waters and a white sandy beach is a must visit

This beach cafe on a sunny day has to be one of the most perfect spots to share lunch with your loved ones. The view down across the sand to the sea is beautiful and this coupled with a relaxed venue offering a good range of dishes makes for a memorable visit and somewhere to return as it is certainly...
