Just a fantastic day at this beach! Sand is firm and gradual shelf - so when tide is in kids can go out quite a bit and still be water at their shoulders. Guards do a great job separating the surfing beach from the swimming beach. All amenities are convenient - restrooms (surprisingly clean), drinks (kid and adult varieties), and... More

Had a beautiful afternoon here. First visit to St Ives & the surrounding areas & cannot wait to come back for a stroll around (without kids!). The beach is clean with great facilities, the life guards are everywhere, always reassuring.

This beach is ideal for surfers, also it is a sandy beach, i believe now there are lifeguards present at certain times in case of anyone getting into difficulties. Also the Tate Gallery is situated above the beach which is well wort a visit.

As always, clean, lovely and perfect for the family. You won't get a better beach than this in Cornwall. Lovely for sunset photos and on the beach fire pits at the end of the day

Clean, shops on the beach, clear water and plenty of rock pools for adventurous children - oh and reasonably priced surf lessons!

Having stayed in St Ives a couple of times, it seems that we have overlooked on of the best beaches in Cornwall. We always travelled out of town to local beaches but on the last couple of days the kids wanted to stay local and go to the beech down the road. Great place to have fun and surf. Surf... More

Spent 2 days on porthmeor beach as an alternative to porthgwidden during recent trip to st ives. Excellent body boarding for the kids and always loads off space. Definitely the beach to visit if you want surf all the time and a great alternative for us.

It's really clean and there are good facilities, toilets, cafes, surf schools etc. You can hire deck chairs and wind breaks and its a matter of minutes to all the shops and cafes in the town centre. Can be windy, it is the surfers beach after all....

Not a cheap cheap cafe but you do get a lovely breakfast for paying that bit extra. Fresh eggs cooked to order, thick bacon, nice toast and huge pot of tea makes me a happy reviewer.

Great beach with good waves for body boarders and juniors. Good rocks to the side of the beach for exploring and searching for tiny crabs.
