Ely Museum is a very small museum. The only interesting thing is the bit about the old gaol. The museum needs a thorough overhaul, or perhaps even better, just close it. Information provided contains spelling errors.

Although a small museum, they have made great use of the space on various levels to house quite an extensive collection of interesting local and other artifacts.

Not at all preachy or pretentious staff very helpful and informative. We visited on a lovely summers day and didn't regret misssing the sunshine as the place was so interesting.

Located in the city's old gaol building the museum gives a very interesting overview of the history of the Fens and the city (though not much on the cathedral which demands its own visit). Kids are certainly not neglected - there are helmets and costumes to try on and pottery pieces and fossils to pick up. Little ones are probably... More

We got a combined ticket at the Oliver Cromwell House - excellent value. Really interesting museum, well laid out & a grisly glimpse of conditions in 17th century gaols! Oh, and a mystery object which you're asked to guess & then reception will tell you you're wrong & what it actually is - good fun!

A lovely little museum, very informative. Film about the Fens, and the draining of the land, included. Everyday items, and little curiosities. Worth a visit. Take advantage of the 2 for 1offer if travelling by train.

We went on a cold day in early May, on a combined ticket with the Oliver Cromwell house. Unfortunately there aren't good concession prices for pensioners so we spent about a fiver each on these tickets. The museum was actually quite interesting for a small museum of local history, with good interpretative exhibits and a good effort made to involve... More

Visited one Saturday afternoon towards the end of the day with two small children and two grandparents. All enjoyed it - something for everyone! Well laid out, interesting stuff and we loved a drink in the courtyard garden at the end. Definitely worth a visit,

Nice little museum worth a look if you have a spare half a hour, quite small but lots of interesting things to see.

Ely Museum is much bigger than you think. You can quiet easily spend a good couple of hourse in here. The jail scene is particularly grim but interesting. I like watching the videos about the fen floods. Shame there isn't a little cafe on site. Nice shop though.
