We visited the Museum on a Sunday afternoon. We were greeted by a very nice young lady who gave us information about the museum and agreed we could take photos, The information on the walls and exhibits were informative and during the tour there is a video showing how the area was drained and created.

The museum is a little hidden-away but is worth a visit if only to give more information about Ely and the fens. While there are many static displays there has also been an attempt to involve children with [for instance] dressing up as anglo-saxons. The video about fishing for eels in the fens was amusing and interesting.

An interesting local museum that shows the history of Ely. All sorts of objects and history from fossils, through Iron Age, the Romans, Cromwell to WWII. Pleasant way to fill an hour.

Worth a visit if you have time. There is a good range of artifacts and information covering the local history. The remains of the gaol are fascinating. Lucky that they are still in place and were not removed.

Ely Museum is a must for both locals and out of town visitors. Besides the interesting location (it's in the old Ely Gaol,) there are several small but rather good collections. And the collections are not just behind glass, there are signs practically begging people to touch things! I held a preserved wooly mammoth tooth IN MY HAND- What other... More

A visit to the Ely Museum begins with ancient fossils and takes you through the history of human occupation and endeavour in the Fens, explaining the geographical and social forces that shaped this area.

Nice stuff in the giftshop. Didn't make it as far as the museum because it was about to close. I got some pretty bracelets and an ancient rune ring.

There were not many people in the museum, guess most are at the cathedral. Self guided tour give lots of interesting facts about the town. Admission price gives you unlimited visits for a year at no extra charge
