Punting was the first item in our to-do list in Cambridge. We took a 45 minute round trip across the river which runs alongside many of the colleges and important buildings of the University. We saw 7 out of the 31 colleges during this punting trip. A must visit when in Cambridge..do not miss!

I know probably you might compare this to venice famous special boat rides. But do not compare. It's completely different. While Venice is like a mystery, discovering history around every corner and staring at a handsome man explaining everything to you, in a sort of warm way, this (while similar in the handsome-ness of the person if you are lucky)... Lovely river running along the backs of the university colleges (known as the Backs). A guided punt is a favourite tourist attraction. A very relaxing and interesting way to spend an hour.

Lovely, peaceful walks - away from the city centre and the tourist traps. Well worth a trip. Take a punt or a slow walk. Lots to see on the way. Lovely bridges to be encountered!

peaceful in the middle of a stunning city. Punts were not on as much as freezing but sure in summer would be even more entertaining

This could have been a great experience if only we hadn't decided to punt one ourselves! If you've never punted before I would recommend you spend the extra money and go on one of the organised trips with running commentary. I'm sure the sights of the colleges etc would have been amazing if we had managed to go further than... More

If you happen to be in Cambridge you can't but admire the river Cam which gave famous university city its name. You may watch its waters from numerous bridges, you may sit on its slopes, you may hire a boat. Which do you prefer?
