Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate. « less

Great Missenden is a beautiful place to visit - intriguing little shops and gorgeous buildings. The Roald Dahl Museum is small, but excellent if you have book-hungry five to ten year olds to amuse during half term. We loved the cafe with its friendly staff and community buzz, but what a staggeringly rude young man in the bookshop! He even... more

We went to the Roald Dahl museum with our 6 year old nephew. I'd read various reviews which were mixed so decided to find out for ourselves. I'm glad we did as we had a lovely time there. My nephew did the Fantastic Mr Fox trail and got involved in the crafts and exhibitions. We went to a story time... more

Even with a discount for a family of 5, this was an expensive mistake for our half -term trip with our 3 boys. The collection of information was poor and dis-jointed in its presentation, and didn't manage to hold the attention of either the children or the adults in our party. There was a real missed opportunity to highlight the... more

My daughter's 2nd grade class did a unit on Roald Dahl so this was perfect to visit. I would say this museum is more geared to kids under 10 even though my son who's 11 enjoyed it as well. I wish we had more time as we didn't get to stay for the storytelling or chocolate decorating. My kids had... more

The museum is small (only three rooms). It is very pricey at £6 for adults. Activities are aimed at children but these are limited. There seems to be a real missed opportunity here about going into the author’s life and his connections to Buckinghamshire. Most of the displays are linked to his two autobiographical books ‘Boy’ and ‘Going Solo’. There... more

Having come to visit on a detour off the M40, it was well worth it. From the car park near the village roundabout, it took less than 5 minutes to walk - look out for it on the left, it doesn't have a brown tourist sign. It was ideal for ages 4/5 upwards with lots of small different things to... more

I took my nephew age 6 to the museum and he loved it. While relatively small, there is still lots to do - storytelling, interactive exhibits and an entire room devoted to crafts where you can make things, draw and generally get creative. Cafe Twit has a selection of good, healthy and reasonably priced food. The shop was a revelation... more

Not far from us is the Chiltern Village of Great Missenden where the famous author Roald Dahl lived until his death in 1990. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre is in the High Street of this picturesque village set in the Missbourne Valley. Half of the Museum tells the fascinating story of Roald Dahl’s life. The other half focuses... more

My daughter (11) and I are big Roald Dahl fans, and we enjoyed our short trip from London to visit this museum. Although the relatively small space was crowded with very young children (I'd guess most were about 4-8 years old), the exhibits were appealing to all ages. We were especially interested in the exhibits that showed how Dahl's writing... more
