Steam and diesel railway run for 30+ years by enthusiasts. Based at Bitton station on the A431 there are steam workings on certain weekends, but you will to find out when. There is a restaurant serving food and drinks during the week. A nice trip to make.

I love this railway as I have watched it grow over the last 25 years. The steam trains operate at various times throughout the year. Alongside the railway track is the Cycle Track that runs through the countryside from Bristol to Bath. Cyclists and walkers really like the setting because it is tranquil and you can walk and cycle without... More

The weekend of 12th + 13th April was the railways annual diesel gala, so we decided to pop along and see what was going on. We were warmly welcomed by friendly (volunteer) staff and immediately made our way onto the platform. We were subsequently treated to a succession of beautifully turned out locomotives as they passed through operating to their... More

Simply awful. A complete con for tourists from beginning to end ? Took the family for what turned out to be a complete waste of time. Never again ! Overpriced and spent ages just sitting in a dirty old carriage that could at least have had a table that wasn't sticky ! Eventually set off and within a few minutes... More

Philip s – thank you for your comments on your visit to the Avon Valley Railway, it’s through feedback from our customers, both positive and negative, that we can make improvements to our visitor experience. The mainly volunteer run organisation is very proud of what it has achieved over the past 40 years and while we appreciate we are not... More

We celebrated my wife's birthday by having lunch on board No.15 from Bitton Station at the Avon Valley Railway and it was a fantastic experience. All our cares and woes melted away as everyone on board worked tirelessly to ensure that our trip was memorable and happy. From the moment we sat down at our reserved table - which, incidentally,... Our 4-year old enjoyed the idea of riding a steam train and visiting the engine room but it is a bit of a rip-off if you consider the short distance travelled and what you actually see whilst on the train. The food at the restaurant was very good though, served in a carriage with a little play area for the... More

My husband and I were given a voucher for a three course Sunday lunch on the Avon Valley Railway. We both enjoyed it very much, the food was excellent and plenty of it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The actual train journey was not very long but most enjoyable.

On a recent visit to Bath I decided to ride the Bath Bristol Cycle Path. On the return stooped for coffee and cake at Bitton Station. Firstly what a smiley welcome from Julia and what a choice of cakes. Well worth a stop.

I liked seeing the steam engines and the old station was very quaint but the price of the train journey was very expensive, especially if you were a family of four !!! Its not a long distance traveled and there is nothing at the end of it. A bit of a rip off !!

Thanks for your feedback. We too would very much like a longer line to run trains on and we are in discussion with the local authority to progress plans for our extension. This will take a great deal of support from our members and visitors, with approximately £2 million needed to fulfil our extension plans. Our prices have been held... More
