Description: Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for...
Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years and is now home to the 15th Duke and his family. Alongside the world class collection of art, the house contains the fascinating stories of the people who have shaped the history of both the Abbey and the nation; including the ‘creation ‘ of Afternoon Tea. The Gardens, with a twenty year restoration programme, are of equal splendour with 28 acres of Repton designs to be explored and discovered.Throughout the year Woburn also hosts a series of events including: classic cars rallies, The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, summer theatre, the country fair, vintage airplane rally and autumn deer walks.

We had a great trip to Woburn (the Safari Park and the Abbey) Im not a great one for history, but the house and the grounds were simply fantastic.

To enjoy this attraction to the full, you obviously need the weather to be kind, which it was when we visited. Whilst the grounds are vast, as far as I could tell, you weren't allowed to get close to the nine species of deer, which was a shame. There were signs saying that the public shouldn't go any further. We... More

For Stately Home, Deer Park and Garden Lovers the world over, the Woburn experience has something of highest quality for everybody. Arriving early on a quiet weekday we paid, collected a useful guide leaflet and drove the two miles through the deer park to Woburn Abbey and Gardens. Passing carefully along newly refurbished roads, deer park vistas stretch way into... More

Just being developed, pleasant but underwhelming at the moment compared to other great houses. The deer park is lovely.

This is what you call a stately home. It has all the best attributes, taste and quality along with informative guides. There is a fascinating small room which is stripped back to the basic wood panelling which is being used to demonstrate how Chinese wallpaper was first introduced to this country and how it was applied. Most interesting. The collection... More

Positives were great house and a good route around without missing anything. The Reynolds and the Canalettos were great to see. However i thought it a bot expensive. The gardens were a bit sparse, soil looked in poor condition and no impressive planting, some good trees though. pirit of Repton was kept however. Tea rooms had very limited andnot very... More

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your visit. We are pleased you enjoyed the house and glad you sensed the spirt of Repton in the garden, as this has been the focus for our garden team over the last 10 yrs - installing many of the missing original features in line with Repton's "red book" plan... Visited the gardens in June - took a friend as a midweek treat, finishing up with a pre booked Afternoon tea at the Duchess Tea Rooms. Currently garden entry plus afternoon tea is offered for £14, excellent value - I totally recommend. We had the gardens almost to ourselves ( other than bumping into the Dowager Duchess at the Bog... The house is spotlessly clean and has the feel of really being cared for. The Canaletto exhibition is breath taking - worth going to visit just for that. The gardens were delightful but unfortunately we couldn't get into the Sculpture gallery as there was a wedding taking place. The gift shop was very disappointing but the Pottery shop is worth... A really great place to visit Rooms in abbey are outstanding with lots of historical connections. The gardens are nice but not outstanding, interesting exhibitions in the buildings around the Abbey. Easy to get to. The only down side is that they stop serving hot food at 1400hrs although they do sell sandwiches and cakes all day

Thank you for your recent review, I am however sorry you feel the gardens didn't have the same impact as the house. We are an RHS Partner Garden and pride ourselves in our award winning gardens and the transformation they have undergone over the last 10 years. The hot food offer in the tearoom is based around our opening times, hot... More
