Description: Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for...
Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years and is now home to the 15th Duke and his family. Alongside the world class collection of art, the house contains the fascinating stories of the people who have shaped the history of both the Abbey and the nation; including the ‘creation ‘ of Afternoon Tea. The Gardens, with a twenty year restoration programme, are of equal splendour with 28 acres of Repton designs to be explored and discovered.Throughout the year Woburn also hosts a series of events including: classic cars rallies, The Woburn Abbey Garden Show, summer theatre, the country fair, vintage airplane rally and autumn deer walks.

The house has a lovely light feel about and ,because we went midweek, we saw some of the private living quarters . The garden is beautiful, even in the rain. We drove up to it from the town of Stamford and that means that you drive through 2 miles of Deer Park ,and see a lot of the 8 species of... More

Lots to see. It was a great day out. Unfortunately it was raining when we visited so we didn't get to enjoy the gardens fully, but still lovely.

Visited the grounds and abbey, hit the grounds first and found them a real lovely switch off area and although several others around you always felt like you had the gardens to yourself. Well looked after...easy walk with no major gradients to deal with, plenty of water features made the gardens a lovely setting to spend an hour or so.... More

One of England's great country houses, but, once even greater still (-1955). Entry to the house be by way of a side door - on the north side. All the public rooms have much to display and even more to read about ! The collection of ancestral paintings being particularly impressive. Then there be the objet d'art - Chinoisserie being... The day we visited rain was forecast for the afternoon so we went round the beautiful gardens in the morning and enjoyed it . We visited the cafeteria for a light lunch which was ok before visiting the house. All the guides were brilliant and founts of knowledge. The wallpaper exhibits in particular were very interesting as well as all... More

First time visit to these Gardens designed by Humphry Repton and I wasn't disappointed. Thoughtfully arranged planted areas, garden rooms and expanses of water, surrounded by extensive parkland all combine to delight all ages of visitors. The parks are dotted with some playful sculptures and some impressive trees. Among the attractions there is a pottery, with items for sale; a... More

Woburn Abbey and the deer park has to be one of our favourite places. We live in Milton Keynes so we're only a 10-15 minute drive away and even if we don't visit the Abbey itself we enjoy driving through the park to see the deer which are so beautiful. We visited the Abbey a couple of years ago and... More

Thank you for your recent review. I am pleased that you were able to view the new additions to the gardens, a lot has changed over the last few years and this was obviously clear for you to see, since visiting last. I'm sorry you were disappointed about the 2 onsite shops we have. The Duchess Gift Shop is open... More

We visited on a lovely sunny day, and had a nice walk around the grounds and the Abbey, the gardens were nice and the house is interesting to see. I liked particularly liked the Cannaleto's of Venice. They have on display costumes from "Strictly Come Dancing" on display and for me , these spoiled the attraction somewhat I was impressed... We enjoyed a half-day at the Abbey, walking its extensive gardens... and relaxing at the tearooms. It was the first of many visits to England's many stately homes during our 33-day travels through southern England... and we were impressed with countless aspects of this visit. Finding Woburn Abbey wasn't all that easy. Although this was our third recent visit to... More

Abbey is interesting and tea rooms are nice although expensive. If you're interested in wildlife and plan to visit for the deer park its barely worth bothering. £7 entry fee and the deer park is nothing like the standard of Richmond Park in London (which is free).

Thanks for taking time to post a review. The deer park is home to 9 species of deer who roam freely across the 3500 acre park and so are spotted better on some days than others! We have an exhibition dedicated to the Pere David deer that tells you more about the conservation of this species in particular, by the... More
