The Swiss garden has opened again in the last month after extensive restoration with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund. It has been extremely well done and we shall be going back in a few years when the new planting has matured. There is plenty to see now, however, with lovely vistas and quirky buildings. The ponds are clear and... More

Wanted to visit last year but were shut due to being refurbished so when found out they had re opened couldn't wait to go along.. I went with my two children and we enjoyed a lovely peaceful walk around. They could wonder freely as were safe. They enjoyed seeing the peacocks strolling around and the ducks on the pond. It... Having read of the re-opening of the Swiss Garden we visited 11 days later and enjoyed a pleasant stroll around the restored and revitalised garden. As someone has already commented, it is still a work in progress, but what garden isn't? I hope there is a team of gardeners to continue this - we only saw one whilst we were... More

After months of waiting for the gardens to reopen it was well worth the visit. All the follies are beautiful and very well restored. Disappointed that the picnic area round the lake is still shut though. Our 3 yr old loved all the bridges and sculptures.

Just visited the newly re-opened Swiss Garden and found it sympathetically refreshed. It is still a work in progress with some areas yet to be finished or to mature but it retains its charm. Accessibility has been improved with good level paths and even though it was quite busy, there is enough space to preserve a certain level of tranquillity... More

We visited these garden this morning having heard they had been re-opened a few days ago after being closed for sometime for major improvements..... this was possible because they received a grant from the National Lottery!......Very well spent.!!! The gardens are lovely and lots of new planting has taken place. There are new pathways through the gardens and with the... More

Every time I visit the Swiss gardens my mind skips back 40 years to school and reading The Secret Garden in primary school. The beautiful mature grounds evoke a time gone by a victorian ladies taking the air around the grounds. Beautifully restored after being lost to the ravages of time and nature a quiet autumn afternoon is the best... More

I have been to the Swiss garden on the shuttleworth estate many times. It's a lovely peaceful garden to walk around only interrupted by the occasional squawk of one of the peacocks there. There is a large pond in the centre with many ducks on it. The variety of plants and trees are vast, there's a lovely little Swiss cottage... More

I've visited The Swiss Garden many times, and it gets better with every visit as the restoration of the gardens continue. This place is truly unique with many unexpected buildings to discover. Sit on every bench and there is something different to look at. I can't praise this place enough. Visiting here is my instant form of stress relief. Interesting... More
