Shuttleworth houses a unique flying collection showcasing the first one hundred years of flight. Illustrating the history of flight from the early 1900s to the 1950s, you will see how the aeroplane operated in the pioneering years, was rapidly developed during World War I, was used for sport, pleasure and business in the 1920s and 30s and once again became a fighting machine in World War II. You can see fascinating examples ofaircraft ranging from the 1909 Bleriot XI to Supermarine Spitfire and the Hawker Sea Hurricane. Then you can explore one of England's most delightful (and unknown) historic gardens, the Swiss Garden, created in the 19th century, when an interest in ornamental gardening and picturesque architecture first came together. The Shuttleworth Visitor Centre is a great place to pick up some fantastic gifts, or just relax with a cup of tea and a spot of lunch in the restaurant overlooking the airfield. « less

It is refreshing to find a museum where the exhibits are not dusty and unused but are all lovingly restored and in working condition and used on a regular basis. An absolutely fabulous collection of many types of different and unusual aircraft in large hangers. There is also some motorcycles, cars and other vintage vehicles on display. There are events... Fantastic day, fantastic service getting our own space close to the action. As ex- RAF Apprentices, we appreciated the skill and dedication of the people at Shuttleworth who keep these wonderful old aircraft flying.

Set amongst beautiful countryside, this grass-strip airfield and museum epitomises the essence of a 1920's aerodrome. The collection comprising pre WW1 aircraft and beyond to the Spitfire and Hurricane. Priceless and lovingly restored by dedicated volunteers! The café restaurant provides lunch and afternoon tea overlooking the runway and aircraft parking. Support them with a visit; they get no Government funding!

Not Visited for many years until last weekend, a fabulous collection of vintage aircraft all in flying order...what a difference that makes. The maintenance of these historic aircraft is wonderful, you can get within touching distance of the engines & see the care that has been taken to keep them flying, being an engineer it was so great to see... We were lucky to see some flying on a non-flying day, with the newly restored De Havilland DH88 Comet taking off for a photo-shoot, and on this sunny day the volunteer staff wheeled a number of planes out of the hangars to work on them. But even without this good fortune this would have been an excellent day out. Yes,... More

Has kept its character in line with the location and age of aircraft on display. This is a working museum and you can see the old aircraft flying if the weather is good.
