This was better than expected. Well maintained and smart grounds. Maintenance hangar, display hangars, large cafe and shop. The sleek De Havilland DH88 Comet a small 2 engined aircraft that won a race to Melbourne was being serviced. Behind it was a Tiger Moth with no propeller and a Spitfire in jigs being rebuilt. Great start. Then off to the... More

Unfortunately we didn't visit on a flying day, but we still found plenty to do and to keep both the aircraft nerd and the other one interested. There was a café with a wide range of food available and a shop. There was plenty of parking and outside seating. The guide book that came with the ticket made the entrance... More

Brilliant visit to witness the amazing invention and bravery of the early pioneers of flight. Our visit included the privilege of witness ing flying display by Spitfire; Hurricane; early by planes but without doubt the opportunity to witness two replica planes from the infamous film Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines was mind blowing - how they fly is... Apart from their many exceptional exhibits this is also possibly one of the few places in the UK you can sometimes see them take to the air and so experience not only the sight but the sounds ,smells and visual drama of aircraft some dating back to WW 1. Shuttleworth (Old Warden) Aerodrome is the Bedford area two miles due... More

Probably my favourite museum, best value when you visit on a flying day. See aircraft from the dawn of flying to WWII both static and flying on flying days. The staff are friendly, helpful and approachable, oh and the cafe food is excellent. Highly recomended

We went the day before an airshow so we can see the aircraft without crowds. Entry was through the shop and I would recomend going to the maintenance hangar frist. This is accessed by heading out through the Swiss Garden door and turning right. The Spitfire was in pieces and it eas interesting seeing one wing on the jig and... More

Locating the turn off the A1 road, look for the large Sainsbury’s store roundabout. Turn off the A1 onto the B658, straight ahead at the roundabout and the entrance is on the left. There is ample parking space, best is further up on the grassed area. The entrance/shop/ restaurant is facing the main gate. The admissions desk is in the... More

Now back in UK I decided the LAA Display at Shuttleworth Trust, Old Warden would make a good Fathers Day outing. With surprisingly little arm twisting my wife agreed! Thus we set off from Sussex on an overcast morning to head to Old Warden. The forecast was for sunshine from midday, but the weather had different ideas and the clouds... More

Visited here last week and was surprised by the variety and number of very old aircraft and even some very old cars. You could wander at your own pace and enjoy the smell of old machinery. The labeling of the exhibits I thought was well done and informative. Enjoyed the afternoon strolling about watching planes landing and the general work... More

This is some museum. It is not just the case that they have old aircraft, it is the case that the majority of them actually still fly ! I made my visit on a non-display day and I was still there for approaching 5 hours camera in hand. The seed of the collection was set up by the Mother of... More
