We try to visit the Butterfly Gardens when it is a really miserable, wet, sleeting day. Your mood lifts considerably as you walk through the door to the warm, bright, humid atmosphere full of wild coloured foliage, the sound of water trickling down a little creek, the flamingos and of course the little riots of colour flitting about. We spend... More

This will take the better part of a day if you take your time. The admission is getting a little pricey but a one time must do. The story behind the gardens is amazing.

Hello Kieko55 Thank you for your excellent review of the gardens. You mentioned our story is amazing and I think the part that I always find the most amazing, is how all of our animals are rescued or donated and how wonderful it is to see them get a chance to live out their lives in our garden. Visited here just before Christmas 2014. The range of butterflies was amazing. We saw the very pink flamingoes, the chameleon, butterflies hatching, many different jungle birds and a friendly parrot that sat on my arm for a while! Sure the kids would love a visit here.

Felt like this was pricey for what you get. It did have an impressive array of butterflies. It took about 20 to go through it and we were done. Ok to skip unless you have an interest in this kind of thing. We saw people truly loving it, children really into it as well.

My friend and I visited the Gardens today and spent approximately 2 and 1/2 hours wandering around. There were not a lot of butterflies in flight, but we still saw our fair share. It was a grey day and I am certain that influenced the activity level of the butterflies. The flamingoes, koi, turtles, dart frogs, and birds were wonderful... More

It's a fairly expensive admission, but I understand when dealing with live plants and animals that cost is high, along with heating the space to keep everything alive. They fly in pupa's regularly which I imagine is costly as well. I would probably dislike the gardens if it was extremely crowded, but during a quieter time it is great. Can... More

Hello CalJay Thank you for your rec\view. We are sorry to hear that you felt our admission was a bit pricey. You are correct in your assumptions that we do have significant cost pressures not the least of which is heating a tropical gardens TO 80F for 12 months of the year. It's right on the way to Butchart Gardens and is a very pleasant stop! It's fascinating to see all the butterflies and the exhibit on their life cycle. It has benches in quiet corners so you can relax and watch the butterflies and daydream. It's great any day, but perfect for a cool dreary day!

The whole indoor garden could be seen in roughly 20 minutes to half an hour. It's a small atrium with 5 different types of birds flying around. It had a goldfish pond inside. We only saw 2 different types of butterflies however, the type of lighting they use made it difficult to see anything unless you were looking straight ahead.... More
