Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round. « less

We loved the gardens, but it was more crowded than we would have liked. We loved the special kids map with activities for the kids to do at each garden. At the end, they can turn in the map for a free bookmark. The best part? Gelato in the Italian garden!

We had a large group and just a few hours in Victoria we used I Love Victoria tours to get us to the gardens from the cruise terminal (way better than the huge bus groups). The gardens were wonderful, with so many different garden areas. Reminded me of a smaller version of the Huntington Gardens in LA. The kids (5-8)... More

It seems no matter the season, the weather or the time of day, a trip to Butchart Gardens provides guests a beautiful and unique opportunity to view one of the world's most magnificent gardens. The artistically designed and colourful series of floral gardens throughout the estate are beyond delightful. This time of year, the Rose Garden is in full bloom;... More

Beautiful gardens, great fireworks and even more awesome at night. A great way to spend the day. Traffic was bad getting out of the parking lot but beautiful scenery anywhere you look.

This stunning former quarry and National Historic site has been drawing visitors since 1904. The design, choice of plants, maintenance, is simply amazing! Their attention to comfort of the visitors is really commendable-they even have banks of umbrellas every where is very convenient. It is hard to choose, but the rose garden is my favorite! The dining room-the former green... More

We loved it. We had boys and girls 8-13. Everyone had fun. We were all amazed by the beauty of the place. We could have spent all day there, but had to catch the bus. I regret not bringing my good camera. I would for sure go back!

I believed my gardening talent to be average or a bit better. After spending the afternoon walking the grounds, I now feel inadequate. The time and talent needed to create such a beautiful masterpiece with trees, shrubs and floral displays is unimaginable. An absolute must see for any gardener. We were also lucky enough to schedule our visit for a... More
