Wooden boat museum with boats being restored, historic canoes, old outboard motors, scaled boats and others. The only museum I have ever seen that is on stilts in 4-5 different buildings. Enjoy the view while walking on the semi- outdoor museum. My family enjoys visiting this museum. Entrance is by donation. It is great to go visit with a cup... More

MUSEUMS are nearly always worth a look and this one in the village of Cowichan Bay certainly opened a window on the type of boats the area has seen. Much more importantly, it is preserving a piece of British Columbia's history and when you step off the road and start exploring this seashore site there is always something new to... More

Great scenic little town.. Cowichan Bay- waterfront restaurants and patio music! The Boat Society is interesting and worth a visit while in town, history of fisheries in the area and local artist displays.

Came across this museum strolling along the front in Cowichan bay. I'm always interested in the history of anywhere I go and this was a good find. Lots of old boats and parts with lots of informative boards and notes. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Upstairs there is an art gallery with paintings for sale... More

At our hotel in Victoria B.C., the bellman suggested a visit to Cowichan Bay with the family for something different to do. It was about a 45 minute drive, and what a fantastic drive! Lots of overlooks along the highway too. When we arrived in Cowichan Bay, we saw the Maritime Center and decided to stop in and look around.... More

The displays are under renovation so not a ton was on display. A sign alerting us to that fact was posted so we knew heading in not to expect to see much. A labour of love with some amazing boats once it is put back together again.

We have taken many grand-children to the Boat Museum, and enjoyed it ourselves on those and other occasions. Great displays of boats from the coast and opportunity for kids to make boats too.

This is a free walk thru of the history of Cowichan Bay. They do take donations. We had a blast looking at the old boats, and pieces of times gone by. If you go to this historic town, this is a must!
