Went in August but weather was shocking - thick fog and rain! However we went on the Zodiac not expecting much. However we saw seaotters, sealions, bald eagles and a humpback whale. So result. They tried hard when frankly I thought there was little hope! So whatever the weather you might be lucky. Felt really safe and the boat driver... More

Took a 4 hour tour on the Dixie IV today. It was very foggy but they went ahead anyway. The wooden boat is reminiscent of the "Minnow" from Gilligan's Island and could not see where we were for the majority of the tour so had to trust that Brian (Shipper) knew where he was going. Saw some wildlife faintly but... More

We went for the 4 hours whale watching tour with Dixie IV in July 2014. There were no other passengers, so that we enjoyed a quite private atmosphere. We saw some bald eagles, seals, sea otters and sea lions. Although not finding any whale, we were very impressed by the amazing landscape and scenery. Seeing whales would just have been... More

Had a great time coasting around the Broken Islands with Bob and the Discovery. We saw a pair of Grey Wales, some harbor porpoises, seals, eagles, and a black bear. Bob did say that the whale numbers are down this year but that did not stop us from finding some. Definitely suggest a pair of binoculars if you have them,... More

We enjoyed a wonderful tour on a beautiful day around the coast of Ucluelet seeing two grey whales, dozens of bald eagles, harbor seals and sea lions galore. Our boat was the Dixie IV a 36 foot former Canadian Coast guard search and rescue boat. Captain Brian gave us a wonderful tour through Barkley Sound, taking us close to the... More

When visiting Vancouver Island we did a few whale watching and wildlife tours. This one was least. The skipper didn't seem very enthusiastic about the wildlife. If you would like to make pictures and have a good view make sure you sit in the front or at the side. When they have a full boat they will fit three people... More

Brian and his crew at Subtidal Adventures are amazing!!! The ridged-haul inflatable Discovery is the perfect platform for taking in everything Barkley Sound has to offer. Steller and California sea lions dot the numerous islands of the Broken Group. Countless species of birds can be seen - everything from bald eagles to black footed albatross. Black bears roaming the intertidal... More

My wife and I took a trip aboard the 'Discovery' RIB with Brian of Subtidal Adventures and it was superb. It was wet weather and Brian provided Ocean waterproof survival suits to keep us warm and dry, which were excellent. Brian's local knowledge and expertise along with his humour and enthusiasm made the experience fun and unforgettable. Despite the rain... More

We say that but I certainly hope one day we get to go again. Brian so kindly agreed to sail even though there was just me and my husband. We could not believe how lucky we were, they were so accommodating. So off we sailed, his knowledge and experience is second to none, he found bald eagles, kingfishers, sea lions... More

Took a 2.5 hours whale watching tour with Brain the Captain. Brain is very knowledgable with the area. We saw blad eagles, sea lions and whales. Once Brain spotted the whales he would stop the boat for us to watch. Since it was not allowed to approach the whale within 100 meters. One of the whale however approached the boat.... More
