From the Field area you must go both to the Takakkaw Falls area and to Lake O'Hara to have any appreciation of Yoho. You can drive to the Falls area and then take a short walk to the base of the actual falls; it is a stunning sight. There are some reasonable hikes to do from this area. going to... More

Yoho National Park is between Alberta and BC, and it's on one of the main highways through the mountains. That means that most people just drive right through, on their way to Calgary or Vancouver. However the park includes some incredible areas. The Yoho Valley has one of the highest waterfalls in western Canada, Lake O'hara is internationally renowned for... More

Takakkaw Falls was stunning, and Emerald Lake a peaceful outpost away from the world but with great food and lodging. More

Walked from Emerald Lake Lodge to the end of the lake and then steeply uphill for about 2 hours through Yoho Pass and up to Yoho Lake. Hard work but well worth it for the peace and quiet when you reach the lake. More

Located just down Trans-Canadian Highway 1 from Lake Louise, there are easy to see sights along the road. Emerald Lake is a pretty green color, with the surrounding mountains reflected in the water. The Visitor Center is in Field. Takakka Falls is impressive, reminds us of one of the waterfalls in Yosemite in California. Stop by the highway turnout to... More

If in Lake Louise, take a half hour trip west to Yoho National Park and see Tak... Falls (the locals call it Tak Falls, so I never learned how to pronounce it). The hike is 5 minutes from the parking lot, and you can walk right to the base of one of the tallest (if not the tallest) waterfall in... More

Yoho is a gorgeous park. It contains Emerald Lake, Lake O'Hara and Takakkaw falls. All are must sees. You need not stay in Field if you can't get a reservation there. It is not far at all to Lake Louise. There is not nearly as much to see in Kootenay- especially during high season when the wildlife have taken to... More

My husband and I traveled to Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada in September of 2008 to get away from it all. We were overwhelmed by the beauty and majeisty of this place! We stayed in a cabin at Cathedral Mountain Lodge which is a very remote site nestled between the Kicking Horse River and Cathedral Mountain. Talk about peace... More

The road to these falls is only accessible from the eastbound carriageway of the Trans-Canada highway, soon after you enter Yoho National Park. A 2km dirt road takes you to the car park. These falls are worth the walk (1.5 miles) along the path from the car park. Initially the path looks as if it is suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs but... More
