We took the train to this lovely castle, plenty of space for a picknick (and ducks for the kids), great tour guides. Downside if your mobility is impaired: long way between toilets and castle, narrow staircases.

I love this castle. It looks like a castle and has nooks and cranny's to explore. When I went as a child I returned home to build it out of legos and draw pictures on school notebooks. When I took my own children, they were equally excited. Next time I'll combine it with the steam train to make a train/castle... More

As members of national trust we often take the kids for a walk around bodiam. Lovely views from the castle, always story's to be told within the castle from the lovely engaging storytellers there. The castle itself is magnificent looking across the moat and up on the hill and you can truly imagine what it would have been like all those... More

This has got to be the most beautiful Castle I have ever seen. Lot's to do especially for kids. Watch out for the steps going down, they really are big steps, if you suffer with bad joints I wouldn't recommend this! Lot's to see in a Themed Cottage. Toilets are at the entrance of the Car Park, next to the... More

This is a really good day out. The castle is great, can really imagine the family living there, the short film particularly good. the character talks were amusing and interesting.

This looks like a proper castle with a moat around it although there is not much of the building left. We felt it a shame that people were allowed to set up their picnic 'camps' and play ball within the walls of the castle - there is far more space outside.

Always a great day out. Great location, easy to find, perfect for a picnic in good weather and still fun when the rain pours. The castle never fails to thrill and always takes your breath away. My kids love it and I love it.

Visited here as part of a group covering three generations and all had a great time. The castle is in great condition and brought to life in what the team on site have done. There were also activities in the grounds around the castle which appealed to my sone - whether it was the archery, football or noughts & crosses... More

Beautiful catsle with a moat. The tower stairs are very steep indeed so they are not suitable for everybody. There are also bats in the towers, so careful if you are easily scared!

It used to be so lovely to visit Bodiam and walk around the grounds and feed ducks and have a picnic. I last visited last summer so was very disappointed to find you now have to pay to visit the castle and the grounds!!! I don't wish to visit the castle every time! Sometimes it is nice to visit the... More

Thank you for your comments Catherine. We introduced the combined castle and grounds entry ticket last July due to the economic pressures that have increased our costs quicker than our income. The National Trust is a charity and we have some special and beautiful places to share and to conserve and these changes will ensure the future of the castle,... More
