A really nice place to visit. A super castle in the middle of a large moat. Lots to explore and towers to climb, a nice informative film about the history of the castle. It is quite a long walk from the car park but we had a lovely ride back in the 'buggy'. The driver was extremely friendly and helpful,... More

Bodiam has little historical significance in British history , no one of any great significance lived there and was quite possibly a vanity project for its original owner/ builder. However it's location and level of preservation make it must visit destination . Set in the rolling Kent countryside it radiates as a gem of it's genre. If you have a... More

We were really looking forward to visiting Bodiam- we are NT members and thought it would be amazing. It was cold but dry and is in a beautiful setting- however when we got there, there were 2 coach loads of school children(this wouldn't normally bother me) but they were all queuing on the bridge taking up the whole entrance- the... Hi, thank you for visiting Bodiam, it's great that you are members and you bought your children along to see us last week. I would just like to say we are sorry that your visit was marred by the visiting educational group. We do seek ask large groups split into smaller subgroups before entry to the castle so that they... An excellent castle to visit, still in very good condition, even on a cold and windy wintry day. As you would expect from a National Trust property, the venue has good amenities, including its restaurant, shop, staff and interactive sections. Despite a number of areas being hard to access and/or at height, the castle feels safe to explore. That said,... More

We are so pleased you had a good day and that you particularly mentioned the staff and the facilities. The fact that you can have fun exploring is hugely important to us, and we are delighted that your boys enjoyed the archery. Thank you. More

This place is meant for picture taking. Great moat, stunning ramparts, kids feeding the fish and ducks. We strolled around for a couple hours, went through every 'room' and tower. The middle of the castle has worn away, giving way to your imagination and some displays. The history lesson was good, but brief. The onsite staff were in costume. They... More

Such an iconic looking castle but no real sense of how it looked or operated. I would have liked to understand the building and how it functioned. It all felt a little hollow and lifeless.

Hi Joclaude We are sorry you didn't feel like you felt a sense of history whilst visiting Bodiam. We do have medieval characters inside the castle who are available to answer any historical questions you may have and they also give talks every hour on the castle, slightly weather dependant, and how different areas would have been used. There is... More

We visited the castle on a sunny spring day and was taken a back by its beauty and setting. She's a National Trust owned castle that is a joy to behold. Children will love the setting and were all running around pretending to be knights or maidens in distress. Plenty of stunning scenery and panorama for photographers coupled with lots... More

It's a picture of the archetypal English moated castle. Though ruined you can still get up on the ramparts in places, though the spiral staircases are quite steep. We visited on a bright sunny March day with a very full carpark and queues to enter it. Though there were a lot of people there it didn't feel crowded since the... More

This has to be one of the best moated castles I have seen in the UK. Situated in a large area of parkland. The castle is quite stunning with access to most of the towers and surrounded by a large moated which is populated with koi and rather enthusiastic ducks. I enjoyed the characters in period dress throughout the castle.

No need to write a lengthy review, just read other posted reviews and photos. We had planned on an afternoon at Dover Castle, but got a late start and would not have time to spend there, so we headed out to Bodiam about an hour away. Even though it was raining and very cold, we are so glad we didn't... More
