Magnificent. The National Trust continues to reach new heights of excellence. At the ticket kiosk we were given two informative leaflets and then as we walked up to the castle itself e were greeted by a young man in period dress who most entertainingly and thoughtfully took us on an introductory tour of this idylically set castle. (Do read the... More

A cloudy and damp day was brightened up by guided tours at Bodiam Castle, given by 'the Forrester'. We enjoyed two tours, one from the servants and workers view and the other from the landed gentry. Both tours were informative and given with good humour. So much more enjoyable with a tour guide bringing the castle and its history to... More

We arrived on quite a cold and windy day but seeing the castle in all its glory certainly brightened it up! We got to the castle just as a very friendly and knowledgeable guide started a tour from the front of the building to where the servants would have worked. She was also very funny. The castle itself still partly... More

This is fantastic. I have never seen a medieval castle that was so close to the image in your head. Turrets, spiral staircases, a moat etc all EXACTLY as portrayed in movies about Knights. I have been in hundreds of castles, but this one is the closest to the essence of perfect castleness! There is an informative guide who floats... More

We visited here on a cold Sunday afternoon, greeted by two very friendly staff members in the car park who guided us to a parking space as it was quite busy. We wished we'd known about the fish in the moat as we would've bought some fish food, but they seemed happy bobbing up grabbing the ducks food. The castle... More

So pleased you had a lovely day at Bodiam last Sunday. We do try and keep the ducks and fish happy by selling special, boxed food at Visitor reception and as you mentioned they do seem to share any offerings happily. We agree that if you explore off the paths then the grounds are a bit muddy at the moment... More

A lovely castle to explore for a couple of hours and don't forget your camera! Unfortunately it was a grey day when I went but still managed to get some good reflection shots of the castle in the motte,

The outside of this castle is absolutely stunning. It's almost a perfect square with a large moat around it. I was a little surprised once inside that it is ruins. The outside definitely doesn't prepare you for that. I was also surprised by how many children's activities were set up. Every corner of the castle had another activity for children... More

The tour was good. The lady was very very informative and I must say she was pretty commical too. :) but not sure why, there are so many crying children there. Here and there just children running around. Other than that it's a beautiful castle :)

This castle is surrounded by a beautiful moat.Inside there is a film show and there is a Medieval gentleman who gave an interesting talk about the history of the castle which is a ruin inside.

Thank you for your review, we are glad you found everywhere to be clean and tidy. The costumed characters in the castle are in medieval dress and they take guided tours on the hour about life in the castle soon after it was built in 1385. So pleased you enjoyed your day. More
