On a recent hiking/ Backpacking trip which lasted for three days, we decided to visit Bodiam Castle on our way. It wasnt too busy although trying to climb the narrow towers which were both up and down were tricky. I usually like castles which have a one way, circular system as you enter the gates. Im a national trust member... More

This castle is almost a complete shell. There's parking but it's a trek to walk from parking to the backside of the moat to the castles bridge entrance. The moat is where the fun comes in because it's full of fish and overly friendly ducks. Both are not shy. Make sure to buy some duck food at the ticket booth,... More

First time we visited this property and the staff were very welcoming and even provided a fun talk on the hour within the castle walls to provide an insight into what life was like in the castle. A real castle with a great moat and some lovely fields to walk in, Dogs are welcome within the grounds which was good.... More

This was my first visit to the picturesque and romantic 14th century Bodium Castle belonging to the National Trust. The weather was overcast, but dry. There was ample parking space and we chose a nice spot overlooking the river where we enjoyed a picnic lunch before exploring. This medieval, moated castle, built between 1385 and 1388 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge,... More

We went here while on holiday. The castle itself is beautiful. There is lots to do. You can climb up the castle towers but the stairs are really quite steep and scary so it's tricky with small children. My daughter who is 3 struggled. We had a lovely picnic but beware of the ducks, one stole a sandwich right out... More

I have been to Bodiam Castle at least 4 times over the last ten years and I still find it interesting. The tea room is nice and the train station is handy for a trip to Tenterden.

Weather was awful , my husband and me stayed in car , 2 daughters took Zack , Billy and Neo in the rain and they got soaking wet but the boys had a great time climbing in the castle , feeding the ducks and fish , Billy liked the Lily pads and came back with SOE feathers to show me... More

Just looks what a castle should like in your imagination. We arrived by steam train, great way to travel. Plenty of interaction for children (my grandson loved dressing as a knight). Talks by guides in period dress, bring the place alive. Downside toilets are a long walk back to entrance, none by the castle itself.

Proper castle surrounded by moat. Good parking, facilities and information. Good for kids, interesting film show. Would recommend.

A well written over guide card available on arrival with good display boards around the ground. Excellent interpretative demos on mediaeval hygiene and medicine
