As you turn the corner into the car park the castle rises up and is the absolute ideal of every knight's castle. Although now a ruin internally this is a wonderful part of our heritage and the comes alive through the interesting film and knowledgeable human guide inside the gates. Walk across the moat, explore the ruined towers and recognise... More

Visited Bodiam on a clear crisp day,it wasnt what we thought and indeed was quite boring. As it is a ruin of a castle there is not much to see! You can go up in one place but only to see the view! The grounds were quite plain and uninteresting, w didnt stay long! The cafe was ok,not too expensive.... More

It is no surprsie that this picturesque castle has been used in so many programmes, films and calendars ..... it is truly superb from the outside. Inside there is a museum, but much has been demolished over the years which is a shame. Closeby in the grounds there is a museum about the village and castle which adds to the... More

We visited the castle during the week to avoid the crowds and although the weather was a bit iffy (sunshine interspersed with downpours) it didn't dampen the experience one little bit. Owned by the National Trust, the grounds were immaculate and the staff were brilliant. The castle itself is vastly impressive and there is access to the towers as well... More

We have been to Bodiam Castle so many times now and I never tire of it. Always a great day out, whatever the weather. Don't forget to take some bread to feed the ducks and the giant fish that live in the moat.

I really can't understand the people complaining about the entrance charge. Compared to tourist sites in London, this is excellent value for money. If you asked a child to draw a picture of a castle, they'd draw Bodiam. It's just what you expect a castle to be. The added bonuses are the beautiful grounds, the ducks and the wonderful views.... We decided to drop into Bodiam on our way home from a weekend in Rye. We were lucky that the weather was gorgeous so wandering around in the chilly crisp sunshine made our visit even better. From the outside the castle looks like something out of a fairy tale but inside there is very little left. The welcome we received... More

This is what I would consider a typical castle with a moat! Big gray blocks. My kids loved this as it really transports you back in time. There wasn't much more than the castle, bring a picnic and enjoy the grounds. Parking is fairly close to the castle.

This is the castle that everyone pictures in their minds - symmetrical, round turrets on the corners, surrounded by a moat. Although there is next to nothing left of the interior, the intact a walls and towers are very impressive. You can climb to the top of two towers (tight spiral staircases) and the views across the surrounding countryside are... More

I agree with everyone else - but DON'T FORGET to visit the Kent and East Sussex Railway, which has one of its termini at Bodiam, whilst you are there. One of the best preserved lines in the country, using locos and carriages which are well over 100 years old and give a much better idea than most similar attractions of... More
