I traveled across the Trans-Lab Hwy into Quebec then down to Manic- 5. Crossing the hill on the right side of the dam on gravel and winding down to the bottom was quite a thrill. Amazing to see. I am told the the free tours no longer are taking place. It is a shame, They could easily charge for it.

The Quebec Manic Hydro Power System is an amazing and impressive engineering feat. The Central Manic-5 is most impressive but it is well worth the trip to see all the Manic dams and lakes.

Phenomenal dam to see. Tour is free and very good. Every effort is made to be sure that those who are not French speakers understand what the tour is about. Written translation of the what the tour guide is talking about is almost literal. Very comprehensive tour and very fascinating. Night views of the dam from the look out are... More

Manic-5 is the world's largest multiple-arch and buttress dam and is reached by driving north through thick woods along a narrow and sometimes poor quality road due north of the Quebec town of Baie-Comeau. Give yourself plenty of time to get there: you'll be delayed by roadworks and logging trucks and slow drivers, since there are very few places to... More

Been there about 3 times through the years. You drive for 2,5 hours looking at trees and winding roads and then Bonn this mega structure appears. Very cool!!

This a a unique opportunity to experience a pretty in-depth (for a lay person) look at an engineering wonder. Security is high, for obvious reasons but the visit is well managed and safe. There are steps on the tour and damp uneven concrete floors in place to take note of. There is a short presentation so start with with Q&A... More

Worth a visit if you can't resist large engineering projects. Of interest to only a few, but worth it if you have the time. Was really cold so didn't stay long.

No kidding. Ok - I am a geek and i find large projects like this one fascinating. This tour is extremely thorough and you get to see parts of the powerhouse and Dam that you never are shown on other tours. It is really a thorough and excellent tour - and it is well worth the visit to get there.... More

Very educational for children and adults alike, a place written in recent history books because of the tenacity of the locals
