Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi. « less

We visited during the impresionist exhibition and it was simply fantastic. You can admire the artwork shown on a large scale. I have never seen anything like this. The show is constantly moving so you are discovering new things over and over again. Don't forget to bring a sweater, it's chilly down there. :-)

Wow! What a magical experience! We saw the Klimt exhibition and it was well worth it. I found it moving, hearing the wonderful music (Beethoven, Puccini etc) and being completely surrounded by art. If you plan to see the nearby castle, drive to this first. Go early and you will get a parking space and then you can walk up... More

The setting is an old quarry that dates back to Roman times, the white stone in it was used to build much of the surrounding villages. In the late 1970’s some brilliant mind thought of using the many vertical quarry faces to project artwork onto. The projections this year are artists from Vienna, Gustaf Klimt being the most well known.... More

We usually take a pass on tourist attractions when I travel in Europe. But our host and hostess at Cadran Solaire insisted that we go. We're glad that we did. This is a totally absorbing experience. It's inside the huge chambers of a former Bauxite mine, Projected on the 40 foot high walls from floor to ceiling are images from... More

Not really sure what to expect, but we were astounded by the sound and light show in this old underground limestone quarry near Les Baux-de-Provence. The currently featured artist is Gustav Klimt, and some of his contemporaries and followers. The walls and floor are covered in colour, the frames changing in synchronisation with appropriate music. Klimt's use of colour, in... More

A must do....a fantastic show in an amazing setting! The multimedia show of famous artworks projected all around on the quarry walls, floor and ceiling, accompanied by wonderful music makes this a magical experience.

I had no idea this would be as remarkable as it was. I'd thought, "yep, light and sound and art show, sounds interesting", but the reality of it is gob-smacking. From the moment we opened the door and went in, it just blew us away - no words or pictures or anything anyone writes can describe how totally enveloping this... More

Took the family, and everyone was very impressed. Amazing use of an old marble quarry, the scale and sound of which cannot be captured on film. A must see!

The reviews on this site are correct. You must do this if in Provence! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit for the Klimt show. The unique multimedia program displays various images of artwork on the inside walls of the enormous darkened quarry. The images change as accompanying music adds to the dramatic effects. So hard to put into words. Fantastic!

Words or photos cannot give you a feel for the experience of Carrieres de Lumieres! Walking through a darkened stone quarry with the works of famous artists fading in and out, projected on the walls and floors, make this a mid-blowing, must see stop.. The price is reasonable, I believe it was just 8 Euro and I would recommend you... More
