In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

"Carrières de Lumières", Les Baux de Provence, in the heart of Alpilles, is a huge rock quarry where you become totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock, including the ground –all surfaces become a vast canvas of images; it is an extraordinary audio-visual journey through the artistic world of renown artists, like Monet, Renoir,... The sound and light show in Les Baux de Provence is always wonderful. I have seen 8 different shows in the past years. The location of the so called theater is the inside of a limestone stone quarry where the show changes every year. In 2013 "Monet, Renoir…Chagall" were featured. In 2014 the topic was “Klimt and Vienna”. In 2015... More

In the valley away from the main town during the summer months, we didn't realise this attraction was there until our hotel owner asked if we had visited so we had to return and we were not disappointed! Absolutely amazing! In caves excavated a long time ago, the light show to music takes your breath away. The subject changes every... More

Not to be missed, we have gone for the past 8 years and it just seems to get better and better each year. Be prepared to be in there for at least an hour and sometimes more if you want to watch it for a second time.

We went to this during the Renaissance show and we were both surprised at how good it was. The pictures of it cannot do justice to the immersive experience that Carrieres de Lumieres provides - the caverns are huge and the soundtrack (for this particular show) suited the art really well. This is a must-go experience for anyone who happens... More

Definitely worth a visit, but small children may find the noise and some images a little too much (The Day of Judgement scenes from the Sistine Chapel were a little graphic). Was a little disappointed that there wasn't more explanation of the images - there are some panels near the café with some info but not much else.

This is defiantly “must see” in Les Baux-de-Provence, it takes about 1 hour max, but stays unforgettable

We didn't know about this exhibition before until our kind and resourceful host at Mas St. Michel B&B told us about this place. It is one of the most unique experiences for us. The audio-visual exhibition of art pieces was really unique for us. If you didn't plan to visit this place, you MUST rethink again. If we could, we... More

Take a short side trip from your visit to St. Remy or Arles (a bit farther) and visit this exhibit. The current experience is .a display of the work da Vinci, Raphael and several other 'Masters' scrolling across the floor, ceiling and walls of this stone quarry. Set to music, this experience is always a treat. We have taken friends... More

This was the best thing I have seen in a long while. The art and music is incredible and the freedom to wander around the old quarry throughout the performance makes the sensation liberating. A must on any visit to Provence
