In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

If you are anywhere near Les Baux in the Alpilles region of Provence, you must not miss this incredible sight. Inside the soaring spaces of an old bauxite and limestone quarry, huge images of great art work are projected onto the walls, floors and ceiling while a soundtrack of music enhances the experience. You walk through the space, enjoying the... More

This was my second visit to Carrieres de Lumieres and I was just as enthralled as the first time. The work that goes into creating such a magical show must be staggering. The very first time you enter the quarry it's quite overwhelming. The art and the music together almost make you feel like you are a part of the... More

Friends recommended we see this.... We are very thankful that they did! Basically, various images are projected on the walls, ceiling and floors where large white stones were quarried. The walls are 3-4 stories high, Have very interesting texture and are irregular (many support walls are left so the 'room' has lots of interesting features) Some of Michaelangelo's, Raphael' and... This is one of the wonders of the world. This may be a little over the top but it is a must see. We saw it in winter and it was just amazing even though we were the only people there at the time. It is a stunning display but it was was freezing in winter ( at least we... More

This should be up there with France's big attractions as a "must do". It is a fantastic immersive experience. The scale of it is quite overwhelming. If you are anywhere near Provence: do this!

This was an absolute highlight of our trip in France. We had 1.5hours to spend in the caves to watch the magical presentation of music mixed with the Renaissance masters projected on the cave walls. We felt as though we needed more time to be able to experience the whole adventure. I would recommend at least 2hours to be able... More

I have visited Carrieres de Lumieres twice now and even more often than that on youtube! This place is not to be missed. The way the photography transforms this cavern is simply spectacular. You enter this dark cool old quarry and when the lights go down you are transported into the greatest art works in history. It feels like you... More

This exceeded my expectations. I'm not really into Renaissance art however the digital projection brought the paintings and drawing to life. However, there is no signage for the quarry (the website says "Carrières de Lumières is located 800 m from the Château des Baux-de-Provence, 15 km north-east of Arles and 30 km south of Avignon"). However, persevere and it will... More

Words cannot do justice to such a clever exhibition. The use of moving images displayed on the walls of an old limestone quarry set to classical music was outstanding, almost overwhelming as you find yourself immersed in the dhow from the time you walk in. You need to go there if you are anywhere near the area.
