In the heart of Alpilles, the monumental “Carrières de Lumières” host extraordinary multimedia shows which are unique in the world. Spectators are totally immersed in the images projected onto all the surfaces of the rock. The ground is completely covered, too, and becomes a vast carpet of images. The site has reopened its doors with the show “Gauguin - Van Gogh, painters of colour”, created by Gianfranco Iannuzzi with Renato Gatto and Massimiliano Siccardi.

I noted a previous critique commenting it was all lights and loud music. It was, and this it is what it is about. Classical music ever set to an immersive light projection show projecting on 20m high limestone walls and the floors created when miners chiseled limestone underground to build surrounding structures. Firstly, what a fantastic use of the old... More

This is a multimedia show, projecting images of famous paintings onto the walls and ground of an abandoned quarry in Les Baux-de-Provence. The current show is “Klimt and Vienna. A century of gold and colours” from 7 March 2014 to 4 January 2015. It was the number 1 on my things to do list in Southern France last summer. I... More

I wasn't sure how interesting this would be but I was surely impressed with the execution of the show. Sight and sound experience is amazing. Show was about 40 minutes and kept us entertained the whole time. The quarry itself is very cool and is better with the imagery. Would definitely recommend.

The combination of the superlarge projections of renaissance masterpieces on the walls and floors of this cave, with the powerfull music, will give you an experience that you will not forget quickly. And the really fun part is, you are allowed to take pictures (without flash, which does work if you have a decent camera)! Really worthwhile to visit. Takes... More

After reading all the hype about this place and walking there from the village we were very disappointed in the show. Lots of lights changing color, noisy music. Not worth the entry fee in my estimation. We left after 10 minutes.

Making use of an abandoned bauxite mine to create a culture place is very impressive bit of French ingenuity and illustrates well how much progress France has made in developing its tourism business. That by itself is worth experiencing. The current show of Renaissance art is an extremely good use of the venue and brings to life the masters. Visitors... More

This year's exhibition is fabulous. Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci. Having visited Rome recently, it was like being there again:) The renaissance music accompagnies the film perfectly. We cannot wait to see, what's in store for next year!

Every year I visit this splendid quarry with its high walls, sharp angles, and fresh temperature (a delight in summer) and each time I am blown away with the sight and sound of the display. It is like walking through art as a character in the canvas. When I bring guests for their first visit they always leave stunned at... More

Been here at least 4 times: a new spectacle every year and this year even better. Theme is "da Vinci , Michelangelo and Raphael " - amazing visuals coupled with very well chosen music You will forget where you are standing and be entranced by the show
