During a visit to the "usual" Western Canada destinations, I decided to take the lonely and beautiful road out of Calgary, west to Drumheller and this world class dinosaur museum. I stayed two nights so that I could enjoy the many tours, shows, interactive attractions, the fabulous collections, as well as the interesting countryside. There are even ongoing "digs" that... more

Because of the long drive from Canmore (near Banff where we were staying), we decided to get to Drumheller around noon, spend the afternoon and the next morning at the museum. We purchased a 2 day pass just so we could have more time. This was a great idea. The museum was packed in the afternoon when we got there.... more

went to drumheller from calgary, the directions were very clear, it is one and a half hours east of calgary off the trans-canada highway. an educational experience, the town is beautiful with many museums, and loads of model dinosaurs around the town. all the eating facilities are available and there are many hotels and motels and restaurants. we had lunch... more

We had expected great things of this museum but were disappointed. The initial galleries were uninspiring. General palaeontological coverage was limited and much of the information was superficial and did liitle to enlighten anyone with even a small amount of geological knowledge. Many of the labels were poorly illuminated and virtually impossible to read. The shop was very poor being... more

Based on the reviews I was expecting more than this museum provided. It cost $10 CDN for admission which was reasonable but I found the museum to be overly dark and difficult to navigate. I also found the plaques describing each exhibit to be very difficult to read due to the poor lighting and small writing. On the day we... more

In mid-July, 2008, we added a weekend trip to our vacation at Glacier National Park to see the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller. Though it was a long drive, it was completely worth it. My boys ages: 10, 7 & 5 thoroughly enjoyed themselves. My husband, mom and I loved it too! The highlight for the kids was attending the... more

This is absolutely worth a short (about 1 1/2 hours, maybe a bit less) drive from Calgary (about 3 1/2 hours from Edmonton). It is worth every single mile of driving time, and every single penny of admission. Our entire family - 2 adults, 2 kids aged 12 and 9 - thoroughly enjoyed it. The drive first of all was... more

Everyone interested in dinosaurs (Or not!) should make a worthwhile stop at the Tyrrell Museum. The first room has some interesting computer-quiz facts you can play, among some dinosaurs. The next rooms are very well done, with very nice pictures on the walls, and real dinosaurs reconstructed with bones in front of it, so that you can imagine what the... more

Whether or not you are interested in dinosaurs, you will be blown-away by the sheer scope of the exhibits here. My family visited on a rainy day so there were no outside digs available. However we went to an indoor classroom for a 'virtual tour & dig' which was really fabulous. There were about 30 people of all ages &... more
