This was a great experience. Garry is a local wildlife guide that clearly demonstrated his connection with the land and water as well as the passion he has for what he does, which is making sure his guests have a great time viewing and learning about what they see. On our trip we were fortunate to have atleast 18 sightings... More

We went out with Garry on the 1st September and, although the weather was a bit gloomy, we enjoyed some fantastic sightings grizzlies, including many mother grizzlies and their cute cubs. We didn't see too much marine life but the weather may have been partly to blame for that. We hope to return one day for another grizzly adventure, perhaps... More

Late-summer/early fall, grizzly bears congregate to fatten themselves for hibernation by gorging on chinook salmon. Aboriginal Journeys offers small, well-managed tours up Bute Inlet, a fjord two hours north-north-east of Campbell River, where we met a First Nations guide who drove us to bear-viewing sites. The boat ride itself is spectacular; the bears are amazing, and often quite close. Together... More

I enjoyed this trip alot - we saw bears at three different locations in the Bute inlet. The boat trip takes about 2 hours - the scenery is beautiful. Our group was small - 12 people, although there were other tours at the same time and so there was a group of 20/30 people watching bears at one location for... More

We arrived at Aboriginal Journeys for our Grizzly bear tour with Garry Henkel, (just 12 passengers) it was the most amazing day after a 2 hour boat trip and the most stunning scenery, we had arrived, then took a few minutes drive into the wilderness where the bears were fishing for the salmon through the crystal clear water, the viewing... We found it quite difficult to pick a grizzly bear tour in British Columbia as there are so many of them. In the end we decided on Aboriginal Journeys based on the wonderful reviews we read and I am thrilled that we did. Garry the tour guide is so knowledgable about these bears and other wonderful wildlife nearby. We had... More

Gary is amazing. his boat is Oder but very stable and intimate. on the Grizzly bear tour, we saw 8 grizzlies on a cold and dampish day. The other tour company which was shadowing us saw three. Gary took the initiative to walk ahead and scout for places to see the magnificent creatures. on our way back we rode through... More

Spent a week going out with Garry and had an absolutely wonderful time. Saw Orca every trip, even on the days of the bear trips. Had lunch just off the shore with Grizzly bears and their cubs. Pacific white sided dolphins, Harbour seals, Bald Eagles, Ocean Rapids, Salmon boats fishing, a very knowledgeable guide and would highly recommend for other... More

Garry is an amazing guide. There are those guides that do this sort of thing because it is a job and then there are those who have a true passion for it and Garry is at the top of that list. His enthusiasm and respect for the local area and its wildlife make a day out with Aboriginal go by... More

We had a great day. Gary has a wealth of experience both with local wildlife and from his many years as a local fisherman. He was an engaging and informative guide. When we got to Bute Inlet, the views of the bears far exceeded our expectations. The knowledge and experience of Gary and the Homalco guys delivered us many different... More
