For the 8th time I competed the Lochside Trail last week. We have been doing this bike ride almost annually as a family and oftentimes with other families along. The ride is suitable for anyone (kids or aged) that is capable of sustained cycling for the distance 30km or so one way. On this last ride, my daughter who is... More

First let me say that we live north of San Francisco and are accustomed to spectacular rides. This is a rating for the Sidney area part of the Lochside Trail, which we found unspectacular -- dull in fact. We're avid cyclists and found it disappointing, the path often alongside the highway. We touched a bit of the Lochside Trail from... More

The Lochside Trail from Victoria to Sidney is an easy, mostly level ride while passing through a nice variety of landscapes. From forested lanes to views over the Gulf Islands, it continued to reveal interesting spots, including a mud hole with three large pigs. Best thing though, enough coffee shops and bakeries along the way to keep the energy level... More

Yes this is a beautiful trail but has become overrun with rude bikers that DO NOT SHARE THE TRAIL with walkers! They ride 2 and 3 abreast and rarely use a bell or verbal caution that they are approaching a walker from the rear. I have tried walking against the traffic so I could see what was coming but that... The sun shone, the gulls cried, cormorants and ducks were nearby, gardens across the road beautiful and ohh would I not have loved to take a piece of driftwood home.

One of the best things about the trail is that it is flat, because it is an old railbed. This makes it easy for cycling, strollers and walkers. The trail runs from city streets through farmland, past beaches, golf courses and historic sites. There are various places enroute to get a beverage or a meal.

Lovely, flat trail with no traffic through a beautiful area. We rode from Victoria and the trail is very easy to follow. We have used this trail to start multiday bike rides through the Gulf Islands and the Cowichen Valley.

This is a great trail that extends from Sidney into Victoria. A few sections are close to the Pat Bay Highway and a little noisy but otherwise a treasure. Bikes are available to rent easily in Victoria or Sidney. A nice detour is to Island View Beach where you can paddle or picnic. There is a bit of a hill... More
