My friends and I took the AST1 course through Yamnuska Mountain Adventures this last weekend in Calgary/Bow Valley, and we were SO impressed with the whole experience. The course as a whole is extremely well done- content, structure, and presentation style. We really feel like we left with a great base to build some safe back country skills up from.... More

My family loves adventuring in the backcountry and often goes with Yamnuska guides. They are invariably professional, knowledgeable, personable and passionate about the mountains and sharing outdoor experiences with their guests. I always learn a lot, feel like an active participant in the whole process and appreciate the focus on safety. I've done a number of trips (Wapta Icefields, Mt.... More

I recently got an itch to try backcountry skiing and convinced my dad to join me. Lots of internet research eventually led us to Yamnuska. I contacted them with our goals -- a week of backcountry skiing with a guide, with an emphasis on learning how to be safe so that we could go on my own trips in the... More

The half-day ice-climbing session was easily one of THE best elements of my trip to Banff this week. Jesse is not only incredibly experienced and friendly, but also made us feel in very safe hands. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to others - our only regret is not booking in for a whole day! Thanks again to the great... More

I recently took an AST Level 1 course through Yam, and it completely exceeded my expectations! The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and personable, and made the whole experience really enjoyable. I took the course to start matching up my knowledge to my riding and it was well worth it. There was so many tidbits of information that I picked up... More

I hired a guide from Yamnuska for a day of ice climbing. Yamnuska guides know the best places to climb and are fully up to date on conditions in various ice climbing areas. The climb was tailored to my experience and abilities. Yamnuska provides a complete list of the gear you need as well they provide the group gear and... More

Had a great time and learned a lot about avalanche risks. I would strongly recommend this course to anyone who wants to get out into the backcountry during the winter months.

AST 1 Course- Canmore/Bow Summit This was my first Yamnuska experience and I will be back for more. Be forewarned Yamnuska is expensive but I absolutely assure you, they are well worth it. Yamnsuka's guides and instructors are evidently some of the industries best and it was really evident both days of the AST course that was held Dec 6... More

Amazing course, worth every penny. Wish I would have done this 30 years ago. I came into this course with very little climbing experience and left with a confidence to tackle appropriate climbing objectives SAFELY. Our guide provided an outstanding experience starting with basics and progressing at the correct pace to higher levels of complexity. There was ample time to... More
