The gardens are very easy to get to, being just a few hundred metres off the State Highway 1 heading south from Auckland. There is plenty of easy and parking and admission is free. They are relatively newly established, although the setting of native bush and long established trees would not lead you to think so. This is a well... More

This was the highlight of my Auckland experience - beautiful to be able to get out of the busy city and immerse myself into nature. This garden is 64 hectares which means you will not be in danger of seeing the same thing twice and pretty rare to even bump into other strollers. Beautiful flowers and amazing forest walk. Far... We always take in Botanical Gardens on our trips whenever they're available. They never disappoint, and the Auckland Gardens was no different. It's a wonderful place to go to get away from the fast pace of the city.

It´s a magnificient place, with a vast variety of plants, trees and gardens...The place is huge, so if you don´t feel like walking, take one of the carts.

Lovely breakfast and great coffee and really enjoyed watching the Chinese New Year celebrations, a Hindu wedding party, a Pacifica wedding party and loads of people with their dogs out for a Saturday walk - and yes the plants are pretty spectacular too! Can really recommend the cafe. Breakfast arrived quickly even though they were busy and it's dog friendly,... More

I particularly enjoyed the rose and herb gardens. Beautiful planting and numerous varieties from many different countries as well as extensive indigenous species. Good restaurant ended our visit tastily!

Old buildings but interesting to tour. Flowers were pretty but not a significant variety. Have seen better elsewhere. But the lilly pond and fernery were worth seeing.

a beautiful day in beautiful surroundings. It is quite a juvenile botanic gardens compared to a lot but still has much to offer. It is also a free day out.

This is a nice place to walk, free of charge, with some lovely adjoining bush, but if you are thinking it is a botanical garden like others worldwide, you will be disappointed. There is a lot of bare grassland with various featured areas. Interesting to visit once, but not a place I imagine we will bother to go back to.... More

After the fancy visitor centre this garden was a disappointment - probably the worst botanic garden in New Zealand. It does not seem to have been developed to any plan so has bitsy themes dotted around. Paths and grass slightly scruffy and unkempt. Thrum from the motorway detracts from the peace. It's free - but so are the gardens in... More
