We enjoyed a picnic here in February as there were numerous, suitable picnic spots. These gardens have everything from sheltered, enclosed gardens to wide open spaces, suitable for ball games and kite flying. There is so much space so it doesn't feel crowded, even when there are many people visiting the grounds. The facilities are up to date and modern... More

I've been driving past this exit on the motorway for months and last weekend on a grey and drizzly day the gardens proved surprisingly great. A lot larger than I imagined, with manicured green spaces and wide well maintained pathways. A good variety of seasonal plantings and a beautiful arboretum. The visitor centre is very well designed with everything you... More

Dear Daisy It is great to hear you took the opportunity to see what was behind the motorway plantings and visited the Gardens. When living in the Auckland region visits to places like ours are always on the wish list but infinitely delayable in our busy lives when available to visit every day. It sounds like you were able to... More

We were looking for a place to walk off the busy streets and decided to try the Botanic Gardens. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day. The layout of the gardens is interesting, with a kid's garden, a kitchen garden, etc., and they are spread over a large area, making them good for walks. The gardens... More

I regularly go for runs here. It's beautiful, well kept and great for couples or whole families. This place is huge so bring a picnic basket and mats if you wish

I'd heard I could take my (well behaved) dog for a walk on a lead through the gardens and it was lovely. I got a good coffee from the cafe and hugely enjoyed wandering around looking at the gardens and the sculptures for a couple of hours.

Great to hear you had an enjoyable visit with you dog. Dog walking is a popular past time here at the Gardens used by both locals and visitors from further afield looking for a free day out. Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition is on again this summer 2015-16 so you may wish to come for another visit. Wouldn't it be... More

Worth a look, but not as good as Hamilton Gardens. Looked a bit lacking in upkeep. Grounds are too big, would benefit from downsizing.

A lovely place to go for a stroll and relax. Great to go with kids, easy to get around with a stroller. Loads of places for nice photos - we had a family photo shoot here and we got stunning pics. A nice café there for a coffee or bite to eat, or take your own sandwiches etc and have... More

Really nice day. Plenty for the kids to do and a lovely cafe for lunch, reasonably priced. Definitely recommend to anyone.

We like a botanic garden to visit and we have made several trips to this one. It is a nice place to come for quiet contemplation with plenty of secluded areas, or as a family with spaces for the kids to run about and to interact with nature, for couples, walkers, readers, painters and photographers and many more. The cafe... More

We've visited many botanic gardens but this was one of the best. EASY to find just off the motorway. A really good cafe too. Pity there was no gift shop.
