We decided to go and check out the gardens while staying in the city recently. A 25 minute drive from the city and we arrived. Plenty of parking. We took a walk but didn't get to see everything as it started to rain. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. Lovely displays and plenty of information through out the gardens.... More

Lovely place to walk, picnic or just sit and read. Good place to get ideas and information about plants, layouts and care for your own garden. Also has some good exhibitions. The sculpture in the gardens over the summer was a great event and on the final weekend the activities and music were really fun.

Auckland's Botanic Gardens are definitely a must for visitors and locals who like a good walk and enjoy the beautiful green spaces. It is very well maintained, clean and tidy and there is a good café for the hungry and thirsty! It is about 30 minutes drive south from the city but well worth a visit. Thank you from :-... More

Just 30minutes from Auckland Central on the Hamilton highway the Botanic gardens offer a real visual feast. Plenty of open space for kids to roam, family friendly areas with a huge range of plants and succulents. Lots of differing planted areas and sculptures to delight all ages. Great Café too, good food friendly staff and plenty of inside and outside... More

The Auckland Botanical Gardens are a nice blend of native, endangered, edible and flowering plants of all types. The children's section was educational as well as entertaining and fun and the camelia garden was exceptional. My favorites, however, were the rose garden and edible garden. The roses were well-displayed and fragrant, and the edible garden gave great ideas for having... More

You don't need to be a keen gardener to enjoy this place! These gardens offer a great deal in terms of the wide variety of species and plants that are cultivated here; but there is a lot more to the gardens than simply the plants - the various sculptures throughout the park add interest and variety, and the children's area... Recently I visited the Auckland Botanic Gardens with my wife and some relatives who were holidaying in New Zealand. I had previously visited the Gardens and on this further visit I (in fact all of us) found the Gardens in excellent state of upkeep throughout our long and peaceful amble, it was a very hot day when we visited and... Great for short or long visits, day or evening, wet or dry, hot or cold. Great cafe, library, shelters, help and knowledge base. Summer sculpture festival very innovative and interesting in works and locations in garden chosen. Great for private picnics and walks.

It's hard to believe that this is so close to SH1. Free entry to a really well laid out garden. Sadly we only had time for an hour's visit, but there are native plant areas, perennial borders, rock gardens, woods, large grassy open spaces and plenty of water. A really lovely place to visit to relax and unwind.

We visited on a Sunday morning, mid summer. It was very busy and at first I thought there was an event on as there were so many people and it was difficult to find a carpark. However, there was no event - it was just super busy. Sculptures in the Gardens was great - some weird and wonderful exhibits and... More
