This was an afternoon excursion to Devonport in winter and I loved every minute of my time up atop the Reserve, even though it was pretty blustery. Stunning view over the whole bay and of the city in the distance, with some really interesting history of NZ coastal defence to review here as well. It should be on everyone's itinerary... More

Was here on a beautiful afternoon watching the sunset with my girlfriend. Absolutely breathtaking view. We took lots of photos and had trully memorable time. Really a must do in Devonport after a pleasant ride on the ferry.

Ok, we cheated and drove up - but a lot of other people walked! Fantastic view from the top, great panorama of Auckland and then out to Rangitoto and beyond. Interesting old tunnels and guns etc from the military days of protecting Auckland - hope this continues to get restored and looked after. More info for tourists would be even... More

On the advice of our B&B, we climbed to the top of Mount Victoria and had wonderful 360'degree views. The mushroom stools were so cute and the history of the hill was well presented.

After reading many good reviews about Mt Victoria Reserve, we took a nice ferry ride from Auckland to Devonport and started our hike up. At first we took a trail used by local peoples which has many big trees with shade. The trail then connected to a paved road that lead to the summit. We took a lot of pictures... More

What a great hike up thru Devonport to fantastic views. I don't know when I have seen such clear skies and lovely views. It is a hike (or a drive) but well worth it. Bring a camera!

The walk up was a nice hike (not overly challenging for distance or ability; you can also drive. The views are lovely and extensive, with some nice benches for relaxing. There is some WWI history, with explanatory plaques. It is worth the time.

Long 360 degree views on a clear day. Land + Sea + City. See how straight Lake Road is! Slide down hill on cardboard or take a pick-nick.
