Our schedule provides day cruises through some of Vancouver Island’s most spectacular scenery, perfect for a short adventure or family vacation. Watch the day-to-day events of a working coastal vessel, explore the shores and waterways of isolated inlets, and see a variety of wildlife – black bears, eagles, sea otters, Pacific dolphins, gray and killer whales. Like to get adventurous? Take advantage of the Uchuck’s route to wet launch your kayak or be dropped off at the Nootka trailhead for a four to five day hiking trip along Vancouver Island’s most remote and pristine coastal trail – without the long waitlist of the famed West Coast Trail. Or maybe you’re more interested in the rich history of the Uchuck III, a converted minesweeper from WW2, and the local villages it frequents. « less

Don't expect any shops or cafes on Nootka Island, its just beautiful unspoiled scenery and wildlife. The departure port is quite a bit out of Gold River and not well signposted... More

Hard to say what part of the cruise I enjoyed the most: the crew, the food, the weather, the experience, the B&B in Kyuquot or the attractions along the way. I guess I would say all of the above. The weather for early September was OFF THE MAP awesome, making for a literally picture perfect cruise up Nootka Sound and... More

Friendly Cove is the spot on the Pacific where Captain Cook first came ashore or as our guide put it 'where the First Nation people first hosted him'. The Uchuck makes trips every day through Nootka Sound and Friendly Cove is a day trip reached after two hours from Gold River. The Uchuck iteslf is comfortable, clean and serves good... More
