This cluster of cabins, servant lodgings, and mansions is set in a glorious shore of the lake. An easy walk through with tons of interesting sights. I enjoyed peeking at the nanny's and other servants' lodgings. It's free except for the grand narrated tour, which we did not take. The docents were knowledgeable and friendly. Good for young and old.

The museum provide pd one with an in depth description of how how Lake Tahoe was developed. A video about the development if the area was very interesting and informative.i must say I really felt for those early settlers especially the Washoe Indians who,due to the development of the lake as a tourist attraction lost their livelihoods. The museum is... More

Small building but lots of informative and interesting artifacts. People working there were very helpful. They had DVDs running regarding history of Lake Tahoe, they were excellent and very reasonably priced, so we purchased them. Worth a couple of hours of your day.

Well-done displays, and a log caving from Tahoe's early day makes this free attraction worth a stop.

I enjoyed the museum. It pretty much is a self guided tour. They have interesting exhibits and information. They are open very condensed hours. I would recommend checking on their hours for a specific season.

I love museums, The Native Baskets were outstanding, The gift shop was really wonderful and they had some clearance items that were great. The info on Bears was interesting and varied. I intend to make another trip with my 6 year old Grandson, I think he will love it.

Helpful and friendly staff; made our visit interesting and worth the time. Staff were dedicated local people who obviously cared about the history and future of the area.

It has a log cabin and collection of mementos and photography of Tahoe in the old days of logging, Mark Twain and homesteads way before the development of the large cities and commercial zones. Donations are welcome and needed to fund exhibits and maintain the structures.

We found this museum in a tour book and glad to see it was just a short drive from the center of town. When you see Smokey the Bear and the big, green bike sculpture, you're almost there! The friendly docent walked us through the small museum and shared many interesting stories about Lake Tahoe's early days and settlers. The... More
