We were told so many times to visit here before we left for home. Wow! Lovely, uncrowded beach with beautiful clear, shallow water for about 300yds! Lots of picnic tables and grills and exceptionally clean bathroom facilities. Everything is right there - close to the beach. Parking is $8 for the day. Well with it. Watch out for the gulls... Perfect for a day on the beach in South Lake Tahoe. There was plenty of shade and picnic benches. Not a lot of wind and is quiet. TIP: Bring cash to get in ($8 for two people)

Pope beach is beautiful. More crowded than Kiva Beach just down the road, but also less rocky in our experience. And it really wasn't particularly crowded, though we were there later in the afternoon. You get gorgeous views of the mountains while lounging or swimming in the shallow water, which as others have noted, extends a good distance into the lake.... More

Pope beach is beautiful. It is great for kids because the water is shallow for about a quarter of a mile out. There are views of mountains and the water is crystal clear with nice sand underneath. There was plenty of shade as well. Only minor issues, there are pine cones and large pine needles mixed in with the sand... More

Pope is a really nice beach on the southwest shore next to Camp Richardson. The beach is good and there are trees for shade. Restrooms are provided. If you have bikes, you can also go out to the really nice bike trail, ride it, and stop by Camp Richardson for lunch at The Beacon (a beach side bar & grill).... More

I have been going to pope beach since I was a kid. Lots of parking but it does fill up. Sand gets really hot. Good wading area and for grilling. Bathrooms. They wouldn't take debit and there is no nearby ATM, so last time we had to go elsewhere. They are really on it about invasive species in the lake,... More

As well you might expect, this is an extremely busy place during Summer weekends. We weren't able to get in on a Saturday afternoon as the parking lot was full. Sunday before lunch was not a problem and we were able to enjoy the day. Great place for a fun family outing.

Pope Beach is a great family beach - the sand is much softer than Lakeshore, there are shaded areas, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and the bathrooms are CLEAN! The water is clear and this year, it was about 3 feet deep past the buoy which is great for the kids learning to SUP (paddle board) and kayak. It was perfect... More
