A Beach of Considerable Beauty, with the Mount and Eastern Beach Rocks rugged and inviting. Judged on my observation, dangerous rips even occurring between the flags of the Surf Life-savers. Swimmers ignoring using the flags and checking constantly to ensure they're swimming and/or playing between them, especially the children. On the day in particular a surf life saver died following... So picturesque, there's a little island you can walk out to called Leisure Island and a great spot for snapping photos. Take a walk around the Mount. One side of Mt Maunganui is Pilot Bay great for kids swimming, kayaking etc. The other side is great for surfing.

The surf was great, enough to do wheather you have big or small kids. A great walk if you had enough of laying in the sun with many juice/icecream vans along the way

The beach is located at the end of the road Mount Maunganui. Freight terminal is on bay side and it does not harm this beach. The waves are good for beginner surfer. Light brown sand. Quite crowded during the peak season, but can not be compared to Sydney bond beach. Nice cafe and lunch places next to the beach
