If you are staying in the town of Iraklion this is very close. It is also close to Knossos, so you can combine the 2 visits(do Knossos first!). When we arrived we saw an odd film about Crete history and a little about wines. Then we had a tasting of 3 different wines: a white, a red, and a desert... More

I liked the information about how the different types of wines were made and enjoyed the tasting session. However, the arty film at the start of the tour was irrelevant and far too long.

Our arrival time was perfect... we were the only 3 people there. As we were leaving, a tour bus arrived. Lovely country side, pleasant staff. The brochure we read indicated it was a Gallery, Museum of modern art, and Gourmet Restaurant... the disappointment was that there was no food, only bread to accompany the wine. The wine tasting was precluded... More

Very disappointed in the Boutari winery that I thought would be one of the highlights of our trip. After arriving in Crete, we planned our day around stopping at Knossos and then heading to the Boutari winery to taste, eat lunch and view the movie about winemaking in the region. We followed a tour bus into the parking lot but... More

We hired a car in Crete and decided to go into the wine region so buy some wine. We saw the signs for Boutari from the main road so decided to go and look - as we were driving up a big coach was leaving. From the moment we went in we were made to feel unwelcome. When we asked... More

We visited the winery today on the recommendation of our resort. We are from California and have done wine tastings at many places around the world, including Napa. I would NOT recommend visiting this winery if you have ever been on a winery tour before. Though we had reservations the staff seemed surprised to see us even though the place... More

I was in Crete for 11 days in July 2012. When I was planning the holidays, I wanted to add an excursion for when we finished visiting Knossos. I discovered that close by in Skalani village, was this many times awarded winery offering a tour to the instalations and at the end, a wine tasting session. I got in contact... More

A very well designed visitor centre and a friendly Greek welcome (as usual). Boutari is probably the leading Greek wine producer of any size (in terms of quality, not necessarily quantity), and you can see why they've won international awards for their wines. Its great to see their commitment to Greek grape varieties and tradition, and its also great to... More
