I've been to many chateaux, including Versailles and several in the Loire valley. This is my favorite! And it's so easy to get to from Paris. Just grab a train out of Montparnasse heading to Le Mans. You will need a PIN with a chip card to buy from the kiosk or just go to the ticket office. And it's... More

The chateau is situated right in the centre of the village and is beautiful. It is the home of the mistress/secret wife of Louis. It is ornate and well furnished. Lots of paintings and ceramics. The library is fabulous. The gardens were redesigned two years ago to resemble the original design, the roses smelled divine. There is a park to... More

Charming chateau with plenty of history, nice garden, views of the aqueduct commissioned by Louis XIV to supply Versailles but which never quite made it.

We've been to several chateaux, often large with only parts of them open to the public. Here you are in a more intimate environment where you feel like you can really put yourself into the spirit of living there. We did a group tour which was just excellent (but only in French). The guide told me that the audioguide is... More

We were returning from a holiday in the Loire Valley and had already visited many Chateaux. However we had heard about the Chateau in Maintenon and decided to make a short detour to visit it. It is right in the centre of the town ( near to Chartres) and very easy to find. The Chateau is truly beautiful with lavishly... More

How romantic is a story about a Chateau that was given by Louis XIV to his "secret" second wife, Madame de Maintenon?? Well, it's pretty darn romantic! And—this is a chateau that lends itself to a wonderful day trip just about an hour from Paris. Maintenon is accessible by train—about an hour from Paris, to be exact. We have a... More

As much as my wife and I enjoy Paris, we've learned that there is a lot to enjoy about France and the French in the country-side. Maintenon is a bare hour from Paris on a comfortable train. The walk to the chateau is now reasonably well-marked and, in nice weather, is a pleasant walk. There are nice cafés near the... More

If you want to avoid the crowds, head to Maintenon. Just 45 minutes from paris and 15 minutes from Chartres by Paris, the Chateau de Maintenon is a lovely stop. We walked from the train station. The town itself is very small, so maybe bring your picnic. The Chateau is full of interesting history and the gardens are lovely. On... More

Living about a one hour drive from Maintenon, we go there with friends and family quite often. And every time we go back to this castle, we find something we missed during one of our previous visits. And I wll go back again !!!

This lovely chateau is in a beautiful park and as you look down the parterre you see the amazing aqueduct in the distance. It's not huge but beautifully maintained and there is an intereseting history to it. The grounds have recently been replanted and are a picture. When we were there it was fairly quiet so very peaceful. Right next... More
