It is located at the mouth of the river Vecht. It is most beautiful and best kept medieval castle of Holland is only 15 minutes away from Amsterdam. Built by Floris V in 1285 and in the Golden Age the official residence of P.C. Hooft, the Dutch Shakespeare. The count was eventually imprisoned & killed in the Muiderslot. In 1297... More

Muiderslot is a beautiful medieval castle located just outside Amsterdam. Going there is easy - bus 320 takes you directly to Muiden bus stop and from there it's a 10 minute walk. The ferry is the other option to go there but it was closed when I went. The castle is beautiful, well maintained and has amazing grounds. A part... More

We drove there from Amsterdam and it took about 20 minutes. The entrance fee is Euro13.50. It includes a guided tour whether in Dutch or English. After the short tour, you can then walk on your own.

Spent the day exploring the castle. Large parts of the castle you are free to roam at your leisure. The tour of some of the rooms is structured with a tour guide giving an overview of life during the period that all furniture is from ie four hundred years ago. Wonderful rooms the the guide was very informative and answered... More

Close to Amsterdam is Muiderslot a castle built in late 1200. You can get a very nice tour in the castle. The entree fee is now (october 2014 € 13,50). But the money worth. You can explore a part of the castle by yourself and the rest by tour with a guide. Ask for this when you purchase the tickets.... More

After 3 days in Amsterdam we decided that a day trip to Muiderslot Castle was next. How to get there was an easy decision. How better to approach the castle then by water. We took the 11am ferry from Ijurg , the last stop on tram 26 from Central Station. The ferry was a 1899 Dutch barge! The trip took... More

You can already see this castle from miles away; from the IJsselmeer lake on a boat trip but also across the meadows when you are nearing Muiden from the direction of the city of Naarden in a car or by bike. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens with flowers and herbs. Because I used to live nearby I visited... More

This is the first castle I have seen in person, the moat and the courtyard are just like we see on TV. We took the train to Weesp and took the 110 bus to Muiden. The only downside is that it is not very English friendly which came as a surprise as most of Holland is very English friendly. Even... More

We took the Amsterdam Tourist Ferry and loved it. The children loved visiting the castle and the boat ride there and back added to the experience.

This gorgeous castle has been well maintained and things to do for kids. Take the free tour which is great for both adults and children. After the tour you can explore the rest of the castle on your own. There was a children's play on at the time explaining the history of the castle. Kids could join in parts of... More
