Description: The Castle, a feud of the branches of the Malaspina del Ramo Fiorito...
The Castle, a feud of the branches of the Malaspina del Ramo Fiorito holdings from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, is of great importance historically, and above all, architecturally. The construction of the massive fortress, which merges with the underlying sandstone rock so the whole structure seems carved in stone, began in the second half of the twelfth century.

Castello Malaspina is accessed via a very winding, narrow road from Sarzana, Italy. Take care when using this road. The castle is unspoiled and provides a breathtaking view towards the coast that leads to Cinque Terre. This castle is in a region that probably has more castles within a small area than any other region. Fosdinovo is a quaint, medieval... More

If you are looking for a place that gives you the possibility to have a full immersion into the Middle Ages, this is the one. Very inspirational for children and adults because the castle is kept in its original conditions but still well preserved. You will be given a tour showcasing some weapons, family crests and the bedroom where Dante... More

Personally, I liked very much the visit to this castle and the whole place around. Such a beautiful piece of history and a great panoramic view of the whole city down to the sea side. I strongly recommend this visit if you are in the region. Enjoy it...

A real medieval castle on the hill with some antique things left! Very interesting to explore. Must visit if you are in Massa. May be inconvenient for strollers because of lots of stairways.

Staying at this B&B was a highlight of our five week tour of western Europe. The accommodations were lovely and true to the castle aesthetic. I cannot say enough about the owners or manager! Even in the midst of distinguished guests, I felt a genuine concern for our personal comfort. If you go, make certain you treat yourself to a... More

Last week I have visited the Fosdinovo Castle near the village of Sarzana. I found the property amazing and full of history (Dante wrote some chapters of his masterpiece in this castle). I have been told that in summer time, when the weather is not too cold, there is a sort of B&B service. Since the place has been up... More
