We ventured outside of the Costa Maya Port in hopes of finding a better deal than Carnival advertised for visiting the Chaccoben Ruins. We met Teresa who kindly explained their tour and worked with us to accommodate our group of six. We piled in an air-conditioned van for the 50 minute ride to the ruins. The best part of the... More

We visited Costa Maya on a cruise ship in April 2014. Right where the ship docks, there is a shopping area. Not the best prices. Follow the signs for the taxis, you can get a ride to the beach area (about 10 minutes) for $4 a person. Lots of merchants there selling silver, t-shirts, etc. Plenty of places to eat... More

Costa Maya was a stop on a 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise. This stop is a cruise ship co-op, it's a gated port, for cruise travelers to get off the ship. My son took a dip in the salt water pool, it was nice, it also had a swim up bar .The shops were over priced, and the vendors were... More

We stopped here on a cruise and had chosen not to do any excusrsions on that day. There is no beach, it's all rocky, there is a large pool surrounded by shops. Apart from lounding and shopping, there is not much else to do. It was nice and warm though :) In retrospect, I would have preferred staying on the... More

We were in Costa Maya on the last day of our cruise. Our whole family- (ages 10 months to 60 years) spent the morning and afternoon on the beach outside El Delfin. We LOVED it. The massages on the beach were heavenly, the guacamole was to die for, tacos incredible, pina coladas great. The service was amazing. We had a... More

If Costa Maya is on your cruise itinerary you can skip it, or at least book something like a Mayan ruins tour, the port is poor, poor, poor not in money but in anything to do and the few things they do have are overpriced and of poor quality. The little town just outside the gate is deserted with only... More

Just a short stroll outside the cruise ship compound and we came upon this wonderful tour group. Rate that are absolutely fantastic and a tour worth every penny. The guide is totally knowledgable in everything pertaining to the area and the history.

We hadn't booked an excursion for this NCL Jewel cruise stop, so we headed for the bus/taxi stand (passing up all the hawkers) and made our way to the beach on our own. We were a group of 9 adults & 3 small children. It was $3 per person to get there (& $2 per person to get back to... More

We were in Costa Maya with Princess Cruise Lines. We booked a private tour for two of Kohunlich on the tour's web site and paid a $30 deposit. We got a confirmation email. We arrived at the tour office a few minutes before our scheduled departure and paid the balance of the tour. We were told that the tour would... More

I've visited Mahahual more than 10 times in the past 5 years. Our local friends took us here when we came with our kids. Anyone will enjoy this place. It's an especially great little beach for kids. The restaurant also has delicious food. If you want to eat in town along the beach, this is our favorite option. Be sure... More
