Most tourists think Lumpini Park is as green as Bangkok gets, but hidden across the Chao Phraya River is the almost-island of Bang Krachao, known as the "green lungs" of the city. A 10-minute boat trip from Khlong Toey Port, it’s a vast area of unspoiled mangroves and orchards with little in the way of infrastructure. Many biking tours will organize trips to the area or you can go it alone and rent a bike when you get there.

On our recent visit to Bangkok we did a half day bike tour of Bang Krachao with SpiceRoads Cycle Tours. This is really a fascinating spot literally minutes away from the hustle & bustle & normal chaos that is Bangkok. It is like you get off the river & suddenly you are in a different world. Cycle tour was definitely... More

While I do enjoy living in Bangkok very much, I occasionally miss green spaces. Most of the public parks just don't cut it and/or are really far (Rama IX park anyone?). Enter Bang Krachao. It's easy to reach, just take a taxi to "Wat Klong Toei" and go to the pier at the back, the crossing is 10 baht. Right... More

A wonderful adventure, crossed from the Klong Toey pier for 10 baht and hired a bike for 100 baht a day. It has beautiful scenery and a labrynth of small concrete paths about 2 meters above the ground, between the houses. Not many tourists. Lots of fun and affordable. Easy to get lost though with little signage in English and... More

I love this place. Awesome weather, easy to go, adventurous bicycle ride and a authentic food taste. You can rent a bicycle for the whole day for just 100 baht, a really good deal. Must say polite and helpful people!

I loved this low key escape from the bustle of Bangkok. Everything from the little boat ride across the river to the bike riding (rented at the Bang Krachao side pier) around the park and neighborhoods, it was lovely. Nothing amazingly spectacular but such a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively). I took my 2 year old son along... More

An abundance of shops selling food and farmer's items. A good place to leisurely walk around and sample some of the traditional Thai food that are hard to find anywhere else. You will be walking in an old orchard with stalls running the entirety of the orchard.

This jewel is just a short ride and river crossing from the Phrom Phong BTS (meeting point is at A Square, a quick motorbike taxi from the BTS). Withing a half hour we were riding on elevated paths above the gardens and homes of the locals. THis is a half-day outing with SpiceRoads; and highly recommended. After crossing, some time... More

I come here on weekends to hire a bike and escape the crowds. Its totally not worth it, theres nothing to see and I really don't recommend you get a very cheap ferry across and hire a bike fror 100 baht a day. The lush gardens and quiet streets are really not worth seeing. Go back to the city and... More

Spent a beautiful morning riding bikes on the raised pathways, visiting temples, and sampling street food at the floating market. Can't wait to go back.

Cyclists in Bangkok take note. Caught in a virtual ox bow on the meandering Chao Phraya River, Bang Krachao is a lush, leaf-lined haven of lanes and paths through coconut plantations and bamboo forests where you can take a peek at life as you pass beautiful traditional wooden houses. The low-volume traffic means this rural escape - right across from... More
