Amazing castle, very different from what you could see elsewhere in the region. Worth a detour!

We had visited the Chateaux de La Loire before, so we were quite well aware of what we could see and expect but the Chateau du Rivau has been a wonderful surprise. Not only is this castle beautiful, human size and remarkably preserved, it also has a lot of personality. The gardens are well known in the world of flowers,... More

We very much enjoyed our visit to Chateau du Rivau. This castle isn't very popular which makes it a good choice if you are looking for an outing far from the crowds that can been seen at the famous castles. The entrance fee is 10.50 for adults and 7 euro for kinds. This is a little expensive compared to other... More

Great one for the kids, they can dress up and there are good grounds to run around. Not one of the famous ones but worth a look, not too expensive. Lovely gardens at the right time of year.

A small chateau and a bit kitsch. The entrance fee was as much as other much larger and more interesting castles. When we arrived not many cars in the parking lot which was a good indication that it was not popular. Only visit this one if you run out of chateaux to visit as there are so many grander &... More

I enjoyed very much my visit at le Château du Rivau. I enjoyed the inside of the castle, the garden and the kitchen garden. Everything is very seriously (professionally) done but also with a great sense of humour. Visiting le château de Riva is entering a magical universe ! A nice experience. Yes, things are presented differently but that is... More

This chateau is beautiful. The gardens are superb. Laid out in different sections with different themes. visited in the late summer when all the pumpkins etc. were ready for picking. Lots of different varieties and colours. Lots of unusual sculptures within each of the gardens. Lots of seating around the gardens to sit and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Staff friendly,... More

Le Rivau Castle and its fairy tale gardens are a lovely experience. The Château du Rivau is a castle-palace in Lémeré (Indre-et-Loire), in the Touraine region, France. In Rabelais' Gargantua, it was given to captain Tolmere as a reward for his victories in the Picrocholean Wars. The gardens of Le Rivau were recreated from the castle’s archives. It is quirky... This was brilliant! We went for their medieval jousting tournament, and it was outstanding. A quirky château, really interesting installations in the gardens, and then the festival meant that there were 'real' knights walking about the place. The restaurant was excellent too - salads from the kitchen garden in a beautiful setting. Book for lunch on busy weekends, or get... More

Chateau Rivau is nothing short of stunning. It is a great trip for the family. A picnic area, very small playground, a good maze, a kids castle tower, hammocks and a garden full of bizarre sculptures and monuments. It's creative and imaginative and there are some lovely flowers / plant sections as well. The inside on the castle is "different"... More
