Another visit of a wonderful place which surprised us pleasantly. We thought of just passing by but spent all afternoon even if we were just the two of us and no kids. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the contemporary art objects, relating to the different fairy tales makes you smile! The castle is a perfect mix between history and... More

This was such a fun place to visit! Privately owned and well kept gardens and chateau with a lovely outdoor cafe too. The gardens are wierd and fantastical and great for children - from giant wellies to hammocks to rose gardens. The art in the chateau ranges from classic to the wierd all side by side which just makes you... More

Having visited the most well-known chateaux on a previous holiday to the Loire Valley, we thought we would visit one or two of the lesser known ones, and Le Rivau certainly fits that criteria. When we arrived, there was very few vehicles in the car park, and we wondered whether we had made the right choice. After our friendly welcome... More

We stay in the same accommodation each year and yet it took us 3 years to visit this surprisingly lovely chateau only 5 miles from us. First we encountered some lovely vegetable patches which the kids loved especially as the vegetables were so big. We then walked throughout the attractive gardens full of varied sculptures and buildings from a giant... More

This is one of the most enjoyable few hours I've had in France. It's a quirky, fun filled place, both in the garden and the chateau itself - where nothing is taken too seriously, and is as fun filled for children as it is for the big kids. It's generally not well known so doesn't draw big crowds - so... More

Ideal for a morning or afternoon visit. The grounds whilst not as decorative as some have a fantasy theme to them which will appeal if you have young children. The chateau itself whilst not on the scale of others is nonetheless a good example of its type.

We actually stopped here because it was along our route to visit Chinon and what a pleasant surprise! Although our stop was not planned I am so pleased that we did. For all the formality of gardens of the Chateau Villandry this felt much more natural. Here you can really get up to all the flowers for pictures or to... More

This is a gardener's paradise and a child's delight! We found this from an article in France magazine about the travel writers' favorite gardens, and we were not disappointed. Even in April there were plenty of blooms, but we were also taken with the roaming peacocks, larger-than life garden art, and magical surprises scattered throughout. This chateau was relaxing and... This is a very attractive chateau nearish to Chinon in attractive countryside which has been taken on by a couple with a view to restoring it and returning it to better times but with a contemporary twist . However the gardens seemed a bit unkempt although to be fair not many flowers were out as it is still early in... More
