We enjoyed several hours at this fascinating chateau. We were greeted by friendly staff and the first view of the vegetable garden with its art installations and bright pumpkins was very welcoming. We wandered around the extensive garden and woodlands following the trail of the ogre, including giant wellies and watering can, the gnomes in the woods, the cabin of... More

We are not into the spooky ! But if you are then this chateau is for you! The gardens were great if you don't get the audio listening thing, as the commentary is a rather long-winded

Dear Anne, Our castle is a bit different indeed. We aim at ridding ourselves of the dusty castle image :-) That is the reason why we have contemporary art dialoguing with medieval art. Hope you will come back to our strange castle and gardens, More

Worth visiting but had a strange art installation including big wellington boots in the garden- about 10ft tall. Well worth a visit though. Average only as regards Chateax. So very good!

The gardens are superb and well worth a visit. Quirky lay out with much to engage the imagination of old and young alike, quite different from most of the more formal layouts so often encountered at other Chateau. The Chateau itself has restricted access (it is still lived in) but what you can see is well worth seeing, and there... More

I would recommend a visit to the Chateau du Rivau, the castle itself is fine but the gardens are very cool with a fantasy theme. There is a maze, trees with legs (Ents?), trolls and beautiful flowers everywhere. We very much enjoyed this stop.

Cafe does nice salads although the childrens meals should be avoided. The Chateau is lovely and the gardens great for gardeners and children alike.

Agree with the other comments and reviews - just come back from a lovely visit to the chateau while staying in Chinon. Quirky, interesting, beautiful and fun for adults and children of all ages. Quite different to some of the other similar sorts of places we have visited while in the area and well worth a visit.

We spent a very happy afternoon here with kids (aged 6 and 4), exploring the castle and grounds. The contemporary sculpture is great and adds a new dimension for those whose attention span for medieval history is limited.

Another visit of a wonderful place which surprised us pleasantly. We thought of just passing by but spent all afternoon even if we were just the two of us and no kids. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the contemporary art objects, relating to the different fairy tales makes you smile! The castle is a perfect mix between history and... More

This was such a fun place to visit! Privately owned and well kept gardens and chateau with a lovely outdoor cafe too. The gardens are wierd and fantastical and great for children - from giant wellies to hammocks to rose gardens. The art in the chateau ranges from classic to the wierd all side by side which just makes you... More
