At least once, you should take advantage of this attraction. Take a picnic lunch (sandwich, soda/water) and eat on the picnic tables provided on the first stop - the observation desk. Definitely worth the $30 per person at least one time. The views from the top are outstanding. more

As others have said, $30 seems a bit much, but it's fun to do once. We had lunch at the 2nd stop ($12.95 for good fish tacos). We took the "easy" hike up an access road to Nevada. Good wooded views of the backside -not the lake. Although the road was wide, that thin air packs a punch. Bring water.... more

Pretty expensive ($30 roundtrip to summit and $38 for summit + Tamarack ski lift). Would pack a lunch and eat at first viewpoint. Very nice view! 2nd viewpoint has some activities for kids (expensive though) and a few hiking trails (which aren't really hiking trails but roads to ski lifts). The Gondola at Heavenly is definitely worth a visit! The view are amazing! While the ticket price is a bit steep, the adventure area at the top of the gondola has activities, such as zip lining, and a bar and grill. The village, where the gondola is located, has several bars and restaurants, as well as an ice skating rink!... more

Unfortunately this well regarded attraction was not available. The signs said closed for maintenance in preparation for the ski season until 11/21, and then was extended to 11/28 on site. No web site, including Heavenly, warned of this. Fair warning for those who may choose this location to stay at for ease of access up the mountain. more

This is something that you should do when visiting Tahoe- I wouldn't do this every time, or more than twice in my life probably, as it costs $30 per person and would get expensive, but it's definitely something you should do once.
