This old Church is breathtaking. If the traveler goes there before December, the "Sacred Door" will be open. It will close for 25 years after then. There are only 6 in the world like this. I found this out on the tour, I would not have known about this.

They were running two different tours – one above ground regarding the cathedral; the other below ground regarding the crypt. We managed to get an English-speaking guide for the crypt tour, even though it was supposed to be French. It was something special to see the tombs down below, and the stories and information that went with it. There is... More

The church is absolutely beautiful and an extra bonus was the Secret Door which is only opened once every 25 years--that was an added bonus. This is a must see since the church will be celebrating its 350 year anniversary

I have been to Notre Dame a number of times. I've even gone to mass there in French not understanding one word. It is celebrating it's 350th (I think) birthday this year. It is piece of Europe in Canada.

We went to that Church many times but never had access to the crypt. That visit is possible once in a while only. If it is open, go for it. That a superb moment of the history of the city.

Very beautiful church in the center of old quebec city. The golden alter was amazing. Looks small from outside but you will be wonderfully surprised.

While it was a perfectly fine cathedral, there was not a lot to distinguish it from dozens of others that we have seen in Italy, France, Spain, etc. The basilica of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre (less than an hour northeast of Quebec) was so much more impressive. Well worth the drive along the St. Lawrence River.

One of the main landmarks of Quebec, a very nice place for prayer, art and religious music. There was the French festival in place and many Québécois were dressed in costumes.
