The cathedral was very beautiful and historic. There are descriptive panels in both French and English describing the various areas of the church. Helpful guides are available to answer questions.

the Basilique is pretty inside and sits on a long-standing church site due to two fires of the previous structures, it is newish but the golden baldaquin above the alter is most amazing and we had the opportunity to walk through the Holy Door before it closes for 25 years in December 2014.

Go now to check out the special door that they have on display. I believe it is only taken out every 25 years. Sorry, don't know too much about it but check their site for info. It is located to the left of the main entrance. Most people didn't even see it. The rest of the church is quite beautiful... More

We were lucky enough to visit early on a Monday, when there were not large crowds. This church is ornate and beautiful. I am so glad we were able to visit and light a candle.

An immersion of spiritual expression awaits you at this church. It was simply breathtakingly beautiful. I felt as if I was in a museum of christian art. Please take the tour to get the most out of your visit. My guide was funny, colorful, and extremely informative. I left the church feeling as if I saw something worth seeing and... More

The Basilique has the only holy door in North America, 1 of only 7 in the world, honoring the Cathedrales 350 year history. It remains open only until Dec 8th 2014 and then closes until 2025. Visiting hours are tight, the Cathedrale closed at 4 on a Tuesday so plan to be there late morning or early afternoon.

Lots of gold in the altar area, lots of information available about founder since Pope Francis recently canonised him. It is worth looking inside. Sit and look around at beautiful stained glass and ornate decorations.

Catching a wedding made it even more fun. We were able to get a good look afterwards in the half hour or so before people were coming in for Saturday evening mass. We could not get in earlier in the day due to preparations for the 350 anniversary, but helpful staff told us when to come back. The gold is... More

Beautiful, historical church celebrating 300 years. Gold work and filigree throughout, well worth a peek inside.
