Saint Joseph's Oratory is a must see. I think it should be the number 1 attraction in Montreal. I will certainly recommend it to everyone visiting Montreal. There is no admission fee; you only need to make donations as you like. It is open from 6 am to 9:30 pm. It's built on a hill top. Just a look at... more

We visited St Joseph oratory in February on a snowy day, so we had to skip the gardens. The exterior is grand and imposing, well worth seeing. The interior is more modern and unexpected, but worth a quick visit; the votive candle chapel is ultra-modern, but pretty in its own way, and the “crypt” was full of atmosphere. On the... more

This is an impressively large church and even includes escalators to go from the lower levels to the main portion. The Italian Renaissance exterior with its huge dome is magnifcent and the view of the University of Montreal is especially nice (go to Mont Royal proper for a view of downtown). The Oratory contains a museum of religious art which... more

We visited St. Joseph's Oratory on a hop-on/hop-off tour of Montreal. Our tour guide told us that the inside of the basillica wasn't very interesting, but we decided not to take her word for it and hopped-off anyway. Boy are we glad we did! She was dead wrong about the inside not being very interesting. The church itself doesn't have... more

St. Joseph's Oratory Accomodation We had a family re-union in Montreal on the long weekend in August and booked the oratory accomodation for three families. The person managing the accomodation was terrible. He had to remove our shoes while going up the stairs to our room, the children were not allowed to speak in the hallway. One the children fell... more

This is a great place to visit especially if you consider yourself a religious person. The oratory is not only interesting because of the museum of Brother André (be sure to pick a leaflet that tells his story) but also because of the outstanding view of the city of Montreal. You don´t have to pay to see the museum or... more

We stopped by this church on our way out of town and I am so glad that we did. It would have been a shame to leave Montreal without seeing this inspiring sight. This basillica is second only to Saint Peter's Basillica in Rome in size. It is an impressive church inside and out surrounded by peaceful gardens. Perched on... more

My family visited St. Joseph's Oratory during a Montreal trip in June 2007. Since we took the subway, we came to the oratory at street level, and to get to the church, had to walk up a large number of steps. The size of the Oratory is impressive looking up at it from the street. We were looking for a... more

I have never been to a religious venue which could possibly rate any higher than this has for me.It is absolutely unbelievable. The tiled mural in the upper building is just undesribable.I am taking my step sister up to see it next week.It is the first thing I will be showing her in Montreal. It has left a forever lasting impression... more

The oratory is not only a religious attraction but when you climb to the top of it you get breathtaking views of the city. It is a long climb to the top but there are escalators to help indoors on each level. Pilgrims actually climb to the top on their knees. On one level there was a large chapel and... more
