We had a very good walking tour of Old Montreal with Andre. He was extremely knowledgeable and drew the participants into the tour. We took the Old Montreal East tour and it gave us an excellent overview of the area and history of Montreal.

We took the 1:30 west Montreal tour with Angie and really enjoyed it. You start the walking tour at the Notre Dame Basilica( facing the Basilica go to the left side of building to meet group) for a brief tour of the beautiful wooden interior. Also you go to the chapel. Angie gave good descriptions of the Basilica in a... More

Natalie, did a great job. Very small group so we were able to ask any question. She kept a good pace, quite tired when we finished.

The tour was pretty good. We had Justin and he is a little quiet which made him hard to hear. He was very knowledgeable and informative. The walk is not too long, but covers a number of sights.

We took both the East and West tours on a rainy day, but it never slowed down our excellent guide, Martin. He was a wealth of information as well as very witty. It was a perfect introduction to the city on our first day. We were able to go into places that would otherwise be closed to the public. We... More

If you want to learn more about Old Montreal than just looking at stores and old buildings this is a must. It helped make our visit in Montreal! Our guide, a woman by the name of Stacy (Stamata?) and was a great guide and wonderful at answering all our questions. She was excellent. Thanks to her also, we found two great... More

I bought two tickets for the old Montreal walking tour East via the tripadviser website and viatour. The price was very reasonable. We are first timers to the city so we wanted a little bit of information before aimlessly walking around by ourselves. We met in front of the boutique in the Notre Dame Basilica. I recommend parking in one... More

We took the Old Montreal VIP tour (2 hours) on a rainy summer day; our guide provided an interesting running commentary with a great deal of interaction. The "VIP" tour covers both east and west Montreal (otherwise separate 90 minute tours) in 2 hours and the two hour version felt about right and wasn't rushed.

Knowing nothing about Montreal in advance, this is an excellent way to get a quick insight in the old city. Our guide gave us excellent information and we nearly ended up in an American film-take.

As we only had limited time in Montreal as part of a trip to Eastern Canada we pre booked the Old Montreal East/West tours on line. Our tour guide for both walks was Sarah. Her knowledge and passion for her city was evident throughout the tour and she was able to enhance the tour experience with interesting stories and anecdotes... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
