Harbourfront Theatre opened its doors in 1996, the result of more than a decade of tireless effort on the part of a group of Summerside citizens with a vision to create a state of the art, multi purpose performing arts facility in Prince County. The theatre, along with the Eptek Art & Culture Centre and the Summerside Visitor Information Centre, is housed in The Wyatt Centre, aptly named after one of the facility's major contributors, Dr. Wanda Wyatt. Harbourfront Theatre is owned by Regional Cultural Events Centre Inc., a registered non-profit organization managed by a board of directors, general manager, and director of operations, and boasts a friendly, knowledgeable, professional staff and a dedicated core of over 90 volunteers. Its mission is "to provide a continuous live entertainment service to the Prince Edward Island community and its visitors, featuring both local and touring productions, while being a significant driving force within the community to encourage and nurture the development and appreciation of the performing arts." The facility is ideally suited to a myriad of uses, including plays, concerts, opera, ballet, comedy & magic shows, conferences, seminars, receptions, business mixers, trade shows and public forums. Beautifully appointed and state of the art equipped, the Harbourfront Theatre represents the best of both worlds - large enough to host renowned touring acts, yet small enough so that every one of its 527 seats captures a uniquely intimate performer/audience experience.

We saw the play, "The 39 Steps", in August in the evening. There isn't a bad seat in the house and the acting was first rate. The theatre is in a building with a tourist info desk and museum near the waterfront (thus the name).

Great organization, offering more than wonderful Theatre- David Suzuki has been there in his Blue Dot Tour, I've been there with family building Memories many times over the past 8-10 years! Some of their activities, eg. Armchair Travel sessions; Excellent Christmas Craft making demonstrations; Native and cultural events. If you have the opportunity, be sure to visit!

We have attended several performances during our summer vacations and really enjoyed them. The plays were well-cast and the props were great. The staff is very pleasant and the theatre is in a nice building with a small outdoor balcony.

The reviews for this were quite high, so we thought we would take a chance. I knew there might be a problem when there were only 20-25 people in the theatre on a Friday night. I believe the key problem was the script although the over acting was a bit frustrating. To be fair, there were some people in the... More

A real surprise - we went to see Alfred Hitchcock's "The 39 Steps" performed by a group of very talented actors under the direction of wonderfully professional directors and sound personnel. Perhaps the best acting we have seen, and we have been to a number of summer theatre performances throughout New England. Our first in Canada, and it definitely won't... More

P.E.I. offers wonderful live performances all year long, but "The 39 Steps" at Harbourfront Theatre is remarkable. The talented cast of four astonished us with their versatility and their agility. They had fun, and the audience did, too. Harbourfront Theatre is friendly and comfortable, and a pleasant evening's trip from anywhere on the Island. This is the sleeper production of... More

Was pleased to have bought tickets last minute to see this show, it was a gem. Hilarious the whole way through with very talented actors playing multiple characters without flaw. Highly recommended! The theatre staff were also very friendly and helpful and the venue clean and lovely!

While Hitchcock makes his normal appearance in the play the twist on this production is that it is extremely funny. Each actor/actress plays multiple roles. The way in which they do this is so witty and cunning that some times you are left going.. wait.. how did that change?! The theatre is a lovely intimate venue. Well worth the fare.... More

We saw the 39 Steps on July 15th. It was fantastic. I am a huge Hitchcock fan and I wasn't sure how they'd adapt the movie (or book it was based on). They did a wonderful job. The performance was funny and lively, and the acting was AMAZING. Each member of the cast (except the main lead) performed multiple roles.... More

This is a comedy adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery. It is a great fast paced show with 4 actors playing all of the many parts. It is interesting to see how fast they can change clothes and accents and keep the story line and comedy rolling. There is one intermission. We were entertained from start to finish. Well worth the... More
