It was like travelling back in time, and you experience the Old Fort William as it may have been in the early settlements. Talk to the blacksmith, the fur trading store, the gun shop, etc.,etc,. Take a canoe ride down the river with the Voyageurs.

Excellent experience. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and super helpful, especially with my dad's limited mobility issues. It was very fun experiencing the fort, the characters and actors we engaged with were all very fun. Learned a lot!

Fort William is filled with things to see, touch and learn. It's almost like time stopped there. You can easily imagine how people lived. The people were really great and knew a lot. The 20 min canoe ride was fun. There is even a farm with goats, pigs, sheeps, hens etc. A must if you are stopping in T-Bay!

We arrived at the beautiful Visitors Center at 11 am. We planned to breeze through the Fort and move on to other activities. We enjoyed the experience so much that we stayed for 4 hours. The grounds are gorgeous, the Fort and surrounding buildings are impressive and the staff is well practiced and personable! Everything was very authentic and the... More

This was an incredible experience, however one that I would not soon repeat. Many knowledgable staff were on-hand, providing in-character historical interpretation of fort set in the year 1815 (per the interpreters, the sign said 1816, they assured that this would be changed). The fort contains a variety of period buildings, such as a coopers, a magazine, a smithy, a... More

Making the fur trade experience of Fort William and the Northwest Company come alive is a huge task. The site, buildings, artifacts, etc. are beyond terrific. Most interpretive characters are very engaging(ie. Francois). The topic of the fur trade's influence on the people and history of North America is fascinating. Fort William attempts to invite the visitor into an authentic... More

Would it kill them to spray for the biting flies? Other than that it was a wonderful visit! We felt like we were taken back in time. One of the actresses made us a delicious wild rice sample. Everyone was very friendly and professional. The butter churner was funny. She started churning when she saw us coming and churned until... More

We traveled from the Tofte MN where we were staying for the week. It was worth the drive! We had all ages from younger children (8,10) teenagers (17,19) young adults (26) and senior (75) with us. It appealed to everyone. The characters were very engaging answering questions and getting you to participate ( the younger kids got to make a... More

We weren't sure whether to go to Fort William or not. We have seen many old forts before. But were we ever glad that we did. The admission price is reasonable and with a Discover Ontario 2:1 coupon it was even better. After a short walk down a gravel path through a wood, which puts you into a rural, other... More

This writer joins the many others that have given the highest marks for a trip back to 1816. The fort is original and has been meticulously maintained. The staff is wonderful. The grounds are spotless. This is the way to learn history.
