There are lots of signs leading up to this attraction, which is great, but very few (none that I saw) told me that it's not open after October. Even locals didn't know this. You couldn't safely drive up that road past the toll booth in the winter even with a raised truck with snow tires, never mind a small car.... More

I went there with my family. It's a short drive from the city of Thunderbay (about 20 minutes). The drive up is beautiful and the entrance fee is minimal (I can't recall the exact amount but it wasn't over $10). There's an option to hike up to the top for those interested to get better views of the other side... More

A very worthwhile hike when visiting Thunder Bay. Beautiful view of the whole city and the Sleeping Giant. The hike is not too terrible, but you should wear solid shoes, bring water, and be prepared for some high steps especially towards the top. It would definitely be challenging if the rocks were wet, eg, if it had just rained.

My wife and I wanted to see the scenic lookout from Mount McKay while on a trip to Thunder Bay recently. Unfortunately, we only made it as far as the unmanned toll gate, and even that was after approximately 45 minutes of trying to find the road to the top due to road construction and other factors. Most of the... More

Great view from the lookout. If you expect to hike the trail, be prepared to encounter black bears. We saw one as we drove in.

A must do for newcomers or locals to get a great view of Thunder Bay. A nice hike most of the way up but a bit of a scramble on top. Gets the lungs working.

I went for an early morning run up to the lookout on a warm and hazy morning. A lovely run up through the bush on the lower slopes on a fairly recently repaved road, and great views from the lookout at the top. While it says there is a fee for entry, I was too early - and on foot... More
