It’s all aboard as you travel to the end of steel on 592-mile, round trip ‘Tour of the Line’ to the French Canadian community of Hearst, Ontario. Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye.

This is a great trip north from Sault Ste. Marie. It is an all day adventure that is informative and fun. Heading north you learn about the history of the area. Once at the Canyon you have lots of time to explore and enjoy the area. Heading south all the seats have been turned so that you are forward facing... More

Took the ACR to Agawa Canyon on Aug 11, 2015. Left on time at 08:00 and arrive at 5:30 as per schedule. Trip outbound to the canyon was interesting; good narration and video on tv screens of the history of the railway and the Sault St. Marie area. Couldn't see much as trees were overgrown all along the route...i suppose... More

It was a different experience for all 3 families in our group, but a tad bit long and we all guessed that fall trip would be much more enjoyable than a summer trip.

If you've been following new stories and its own site under the "news" heading, the Algoma Central is in trouble as of this moment. A government subsidy wa pulled, then reinstated, then placed in the hands of an operator who apparently no one likes, so everything is up in the air right now. I'm advising anyone to keep abreast of... More

The Agawa Canyon Train Tour offered by the Algoma Central Railway is a definite must. This is the main reason we visited Sault Ste. Marie. It's a long day - 10 to 11 hours - but well worth the trip. Make sure you take bug spray - needed if you are planning to walk any of the trails while you... More

This train ride was recommended to us and worth the expense. Takes you 115 miles north into Agawa Canyon, where you can explore on your own for 90 minutes (more than enough time). The ride is scenic and the train is comfortable. I would suggest swapping seats with the people next to you on the return ride so that you... More

Liked occasional beautiful scenery. Didn't like the mosquitos! The train ride was long enough to become uncomfortable. The Fall colors might be a better time for this.

We took three other guests on the Algoma train to see the fall colors. You can bring a cooler on board with your lunch and drinks. The train is comfortable seating. Our great nephew was with us as well has his grandparents. Before we knew it Sam had met everyone in our car and was on the first name basis... More

We were between rating this a 3 or a 4. My husband loves trains so we decided this was one we wanted to try. First let me tell you TAKE BUG SPRAY! I would even suggest wearing jeans and a jacket no matter how hot it is. Most people got back on the train 30 mins before we were supposed... More

Great ride and great views. Best time to view is September when the fall colours are in bloom. The price goes up and the demand is higher. You depart leaving the CN freight yard with Essar steel in the background. Then you cross the Beleveue valley and tressel. The first lake you see on the right will be Achigan Lake,... More
