Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye. « less

This day long excursion had the feel of a pilgrimage in that all the travelers shared a common purpose, viewing the unique scenery, which transformed strangers into a congenial company. Our car had very comfortable seats and extra wide windows. An informative video gave historical and geographical background of the area passed through at the appropriate moments.

The Agawa Canyon, with its height and scenery is a welcome sight in this flat country, so we really enjoyed seeing it. The area has a few hiking trails with good directional signs. One of the side hills of the canyon is outfitted by an imposing wooden staircase of 350+ steps, and the climb is really fun. Reaching the top... More

This is a great train ride to some of the most beautiful places in Canada. Perhaps not as posh as Orient Express but very comfortable and interesting nonetheless. Highly recommended.

The ride is expensive ($264 for four of us, 2 kids, 2 adults) and takes about 10 hours. The hikes at the turn-around point are great, but the ride is nothing special. The country around is beautiful, but you can't see much of it because the track were cut in a narrow swath between tree sidings. The trees are beautiful,... More

Beautiful trip. Good seats, big windows, videos explaining the Sault Saint Marie's history and points of interest. The staff were kind and willing to help and explain all the doubts we possibly had. It was good to know that we could take our lunch, but they also have a restaurant wagon, for an emergency! The trip is too long for... More

Train takes you for a 4 hour ride to the Agawa Canyon, The views are great, and the train slows so you can get fantastic pictures at the Montreal River bridge. Canyon walks were fun, I did the climb up the 321 stairs to the observation platform. A little bummed that the Bridal falls was not running, but with the... More

Since you are reading this review I'm going to make the bold assumption that unlike some who rated this trip as terrible, you actually like the wilderness and of course trees. If you don't like them, plenty of them don't go! We enjoyed the trip. It was relaxing, scenic and informative. The train was clean and the staff well informed.... More

We decided to spend my birthday on the Agawa Canyon tour which was a 10 hour tour, the views were breath taking, the train stopped in Agawa Canyon for 90 minutes at which time you could get off the train go on one of the trails of climb the stairs to the lookout point or just have a picnic lunch,... We had a blast on this day trip. The train was comfortable. There was food on board if you wanted to purchase it. They had no problem with you bringing your own food and drinks on board. Access between the cars was manageable. I would nit recommend bringing younger children though. There is not enough to keep their attention for... More

Views were great just that there is a tree line next to the tracks. It was very peaceful and relaxing on the train. You can bring your own food but we decided to eat in the dining car. Be prepared for the high prices and you won't be disappointed. Ask for the car with the fixed table because it was... More
