It’s all aboard as you travel to the end of steel on 592-mile, round trip ‘Tour of the Line’ to the French Canadian community of Hearst, Ontario. Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye.

This is truly a stunning journey through one of Ontario's most beautiful areas. I plan to return in the fall when the leaves are in full colour. A great way to fill a day and interesting for the whole family.

Had booked this trip as part of our honeymoon and ended up wishing that we had not gone. We were at the train at 7:30 when we had been told the train would begin boarding. The train had already been boarded by most of the other passengers and there was only one set of seats that would allow us to... More

Much has been written about this spectacular ride and all the superlatives hold true. The absolute best part for a train buff is all the vintage passenger equipment and just relaxing as you click-clack easily through some fantastic scenery. We went at just the right time to catch nature in all its Fall splendor and every curve provided another gorgeous... More

The Algoma Central Railway offers a daylong train trip from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario north to the Agawa Canyon and back. The seats are comfortable although the ride from the canyon to the Soo does tend to be a bit tedious. Flat screen monitors in each car provide narration about the history/landscape on the way to the canyon. On the... More

On Oct. 2, I was booked with 28 others, from Toronto, to take the Agawa Canyon Tour. You can imagine our disappointment when we were told at 7:50 a.m. that there were electrical difficulties and the train would not run today. Our group went out for breakfast, which we were to eat on the train, and after talking to a... More

When planning our Circle Tour of Lake Superior, this train ride was a highlight. We wanted to see fall colors, and be able to enjoy the scenery while taking a break from driving. We looked forward to walking around in the canyon, enjoying the views and taking photos. As it turned out, the day we traveled there was a malfunction... More

On Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, our tour bus arrived at the Algoma Central passenger platform at 7:45AM. It was cold and windy (40 Degrees F.), and there was no shelter, just an open platform. We waited for an hour out in the cold, along with 800 other tourists, only to be informed that the train was cancelled! We were fortunate... More

Wanted to do this all my life. I'm very glad we went. The cars were clean, the drink and food prices were reasonable, the stopover in the canyon was spectacular. But....the car was very cold until about noon (the staff was trying to turn on the heat but, when they tried, the power went out), some of the doors between... More

This was a trip I wanted to take for many years, and finally booked for September 2015. We had the very bad luck of having the first trip ever (if our train personnel were correct) aborted because of engine trouble. We made it most of the way to the canyon and saw some of the pretty views along the way,... More

This is a great trip north from Sault Ste. Marie. It is an all day adventure that is informative and fun. Heading north you learn about the history of the area. Once at the Canyon you have lots of time to explore and enjoy the area. Heading south all the seats have been turned so that you are forward facing... More
