If you cannot find what you want to eat at ByWard market, you simply aren't trying. Since Ottawa is the capital of Canada, it is a cosmopolitan center. The choice in eateries reflects the international flavor that comes with having diplomats from around the globe. As other reviewers have observed, the people watching is outstanding. The Byward Market is a nice place to visit. You'll find many restaurants and shops on top of fresh fruits and vegetables, usually grown locally. It's best to get there early on weekends as it gets crowded rather early and parking spots can be hard to find. You can park a few blocks down but even these parking spots get... More

Whenever we have guests coming to Ottawa we inevitably take them to the Byward Market. In a nutshell, the area literally has something for everyone. It's located in Ottawa's oldest and most historic area and features architecture dating from the beginning of our city. There is still an active market where you can buy fresh vegetables and fruit every day... More

We were visiting the Byward market two days in a row. The first day we had lunch at cafe 55 and I wrote up a glowing report on TripAdvisor. We returned the next day and ordered the same food. There are two cash registers, one for food and a separate one for beer and alcohol. The first day I ordered... More

ByWard is a cool place to walk around, shop, and grab a bite to eat and drink. Black Tomato was definitely a favorite of ours for food and beer! If you are in to people watching, this is a great place to get a drink and watch the masses go by.

This is a new little cafe that is just beside The Tower of London in Byward Street. This street runs into Tower Hill, where the Tower of London is situated. It is a great place to have a meal or just pop in for a snack & drink. The deco is great, the service is very friendly, the price is... More

The best place to see people in action! Good food. Good shops. No place better on a sunny day. Coffee, books, clothes, bars, restaurants, farmers market....what more could you ask for? I even found my favorite Norwegian cheese...and no, it wasn't Jarlsberg!

I love markets. The Byward Market is lovely and quaint, with fresh produce stalls and, of course, plenty of maple syrupI love it.

As a traveller, it is great to be able to purchase fresh food and put together my own lunch, or pick up some provisions (cheese, fruit etc). There are lots of restaurants - from pizza shops to sit down, coffee spots, benches...great people watching and browsing.
